Confirm Appointments to Committee FINANCIAL STATEMENT: None DESCRIPTION: At the February 15, 2000.meeting of the Dublin City Council, the Council approved two percent of the preliminary construction budget for public art for the Civic Center Library. The Council also approved the formation of a Selection Committee for the public art and authorized Staffto solicit representatives. As proposed, the Selection Committee should consist of no more than seven individuals. This includes the library architect and landscape architect, as well as representatives from the Heritage and Cultural Arts Commission, Friends of the Dublin Library and the community at large. Non-voting members of the Committee would include the City Project Manager, a Library Staff member and the Art Consultant. The Selection Committee openings were publicized and only one application was received (Attachment A). The Heritage and Cultural Arts Commission and Friends of the Dublin Library were asked to submit names of potential Committee Members. Each group submitted two names. March 12, 2000 I mm submitting this letter to express my interest in se~,Sng on hhe L/~a~?' ~"t Selection Committee. My husband and I have been residems of Dublin for the past 27 years. During this time I have participated in a number of volunteer activities, particularly in connection with our local schools. Our adult sons have gone through Dublin schools, and our da ~ughter is now a senior at Dublin High. I appreciate the work here in Dublin that has akeady resulted in outstanding public art at our Civic Cent~ and in our parks. I would like to be actively involved in the selection of public art for our new library. My background in art could best be described as an enthusiastic appreciator of art. My mother is an artist, as was my grandmother, and art has always been a part of my life. My life has been immensely enriched by- opportunities to view works of both well- known and lesser known artists in connection with travel and visits to galleries. I appreciate just as deeply the experiences I have shared with artists such as ms' mother as they describe their perspective and process. I have worked in the Fine Arts, rPhotography/Poetry extfibit department of the Alameda County. Fair for the past five years. This year I am employed as Fine Arts Coordinator,(a job I share with another staft'm~mb~) where responsibilities include selectingjudges for Fine Arts, o ~rg__anizing and staffing the art sales deparanent, arranging art demonstrations (our ".4a~t in Action" program), contacts with artists and fair patrons, and supmMsing the mounting of the actual fair time exhibit of Fine Arts/Photography/i%etry. I found it interesting to participate in the recmt focus group on public art and hope I will have the oppormni~; to contribute further as a member of the Library Art Selection Committee.
