Daily Attendance 196 202 189 178 170 Total Volunteer Hours 3,585 3,653 3,181 3,052 2,890 Attachment 1 is a detailed attendance report which breaks down the attendance by activities. Spring 2011 was the first quarter in over six years that the Senior Center did not experience growth in attendance. The primary reasons for the decrease were the cancellation of the Las Positas Community College classes as well as the Trips and Tours. Staff has programmed a variety of new classes to fill the void. Although the attendance shows a slight decrease compared to last year, the revenue has increased. This increase is due to the fact that the most of the classes offered at the Senior Center now generate revenue. Classes offered by Las Positas Community College and Adult Schools in past years helped boost the attendance, however, these agencies or the students typically did not pay any fee to use the Senior Center. Staff is proud to have the volunteer instructors and greeters continue to help Staff promote the shared vision of "Creating rewarding friendships, intriguing activities and a lifestyle of possibilities!" At any given time, the Center and its lounge are filled with seniors "dropping in" or coming to "hang out" to watch television, or play a game or two with friends. Staff developed and added several new classes with the goal to increase interest, attendance and revenue. New classes included the blankets for veterans program, decorative plate making class, chair flexercise ITEM NO.: 7.2 G:\SRADVCMTE\Statements\2011\7-07-11 Item 7.2 Spring Quarter draft.doc** class, laughter yoga class, yoga chair class, a music/piano class, a beginning ukulele class, a new writing workshop, and Zumba for seniors. About Blankets for Vets The Blankets for Vets Program meets every Wednesday from 1:00 to 3:30 p.m. About 25 women from Dublin, Pleasanton, San Ramon, San Leandro, El Cerrito and Antioch have contributed over 100 knitted or crocheted items. The group is proud to extend their appreciation to veterans for their service and sacrifices, and gratefully express this through contributions of their yarn creations. The program depends on private yarn donations. Occasionally, the participants supplement the yarn, using out-of-pocket money to finish their projects. About ten cohorts meet weekly to work on blankets, scarves, or hats. Working; toward a common cause, the participants have enjoyed and benefited from meeting at the Dublin Senior Center, which provides a comfortable atmosphere. This program has created a welcome setting for new patrons, as well as the opportunity to donate their handcrafted items to veterans. Some participants show their support by working independently at home and then sending their finished items to the Center. The group continues to donate items to agencies who serve veterans. The most recent donations crafted during late February thru May, 2011, consisted of 41 blankets, 14 scarves, and four hats. My wife and I enrolled in the "Chair Yoga" class which was recommended by th'0 staff and later, as I got stronger, we enrolled in the regular "Beginning Yoga" program.
