R AGENDA STATEMENT SENIOR CENTER ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEETING DATE: AUGUST 4, 2011 SUBJECT: Trips and Tours Program Update Report Prepared by Anna Hudson, Recreation Coordinator ATTACHMENTS: None RECOMMENDATION: Receive report FINANCIAL STATEMENT: None DESCRIPTION: The Senior Center "Trips and Tours" program was reinstated for Fiscal Year 2011-2012. There is a budget to offer 18 trips during the fiscal year. This is an average of two trips offered each month from September 2011 until June 2012. The overall trip format has remained the same; this includes how to register, payment and refund procedures, and pre-trip loading procedures. Van driver, Howard Merrill will return to escort the participants on the trips. The first trip will offered in September. The information will also be announced in the fall newsletter, which will be mailed to supporters by mid-August. Destinations this fall include Santa Cruz, Sausalito, Apple Hill, the Sonoma Vintage Festival, and two musical theater productions. The cost of the trips has increased by 30% to fully recover the direct cost of operating the program. Some of the direct costs include the hourly cost of a driver, ongoing mechanic inspections, periodic oil changes and maintenance, monthly car wash, and the fuel consumption. A minimum of ten pre-paid registrants is usually required for a trip to be held. Following are the new registration fees: Trips and Tours - Local Trips for Resident: $35.00; Non-Resident: $42.00 Trips and Tours - Distant Trips for Resident: $39.00; Non-Resident: $47.00 In addition to the van trips, Staff will continue to offer the Extended Travel opportunities provided by Colette Vacations. The Livermore Amador Valley Transit Authority will schedule local trips periodically to train seniors on how to utilize public transportation. Also the Dublin Senior Foundation's Monthly Casino Trips will be scheduled utilizing a motor-coach bus. In addition, one overnight trip to Reno is scheduled.
