The American Red Cross also .' ~~ ~ supported major international disasters, including the Japan earthquake and tsunami response, while continuing its ~~ ~ ~ ` work on the 201o Haiti earthquake response and recovery; and ' WHEREAS, the American Red Cross Bay Area Chapter helped over i,4o5 people with temporary housing, clothing y _ ' food and mental health counseling during 392 local disasters last year alone; trained aver aa~~,345 people in lifesaving ~~ ~ ' ~ ~ ~ CPR, First Aid, and water safety and over x73,555 individuals received preparedness training; provided emergency t ~ ' ~' ' ' communications, counseling, financial assistance and a caring presence to aver r,8ro local military families; and ~ ' ~~ ~' ~ supported 31 Bay Area hospitals, providing them with nearly 150,000 units of red cells, platelets and plasma; and ', ~_ , ; '~ ~ ' WHEREAS, for nearly ioo years, United States Presidents have called on the American people to support the Red , !. ~ Cross and its humanitarian mission.
