HomeMy WebLinkAbout7.1 2nd Annual All-AmericaCarShow~~``~ ~~ r~°~~ Iy/~~~vsz AGENDA STATEMENT ~~ V ~1 SENIOR CENTER ADVISORY COMMITTEE ~~er~~~~~'~~ MEETING DATE: May 3, 2012 SUBJECT: 2ND Annual All-America Car Show Report Prepared by Anna Hudson, Recreation Coordinator ATTACHMENTS: None RECOMMENDATION: Receive the report and provide input on the event FINANCIAL STATEMENT: None DESCRIPTION: Under the direction of the Parks and Community Services, the Senior Center Advisory Committee and the Youth Advisory Committee in conjunction with the Dublin Senior Foundation held a joint meeting to plan the 2012 Car Show. It was determined that the Car Show would be renamed the All-America Car Show to commemorate the City of Dublin being nationally recognized as an All-America Award in 2011. The event would also become a vehicle to raise funds for the Youth Fee Assistance Program. At the January 2012, it was agreed to split half the profits with the Dublin Senior Foundation. Event Evaluation The All-America Car Show was held on Saturday, April 21 from 1 1:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Heritage Park with 68 cars pre-registered. The entry fee of each car was $20 per car. An additional 32 cars were accepted on the day of event for a total of 100 cars registered. Other features of the event included using four food trucks to provide food, and using DJ music to help to set the atmosphere for the event with perfect weather in a beautiful park setting. Additionally, the Heritage Museum was open to the public from 12:00 to 3:00 p.m. It is estimated approximately 300 spectators attended this event. Approximately 136 people participated in the People's Choice Award. Of the 136 vote received, 86 people submitted their comments of the event, 50 people indicated that they had never been to the Heritage Park. The evaluations received from the spectators gave high praises for the event. Heritage Park staff estimated that 70 people toured the Kolb house and 140 visited the Murray School House. The Youth Advisory, the Senior Advisory, and the Senior Foundation supported the event by selling water, and tallying the votes for the People's Choice Award. Discussion will include what worked well at this event, and what should be considered in the future. RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends that the Advisory Committee receive the report and provide input on the event.
