FINANCIAL STATEMENT: Approximately $500 to install markers. DESCRIPTION: At the meeting of March 23rd, the City Council heard a Staff presentation and public testimony regarding installation of STOP signs on Bristol Road at Larkdale Avenue, creating a four-way STOP intersection. The City Council determined that STOP signs were not warranted on Bristol Road at this location and directed Staff to re-study the intersection from the standpoint of discouraging motorists from "cutting the corner." TJKM recommends installation of raised pavement markers along the existing yellow striping on the southerly leg of Bristol and the westerly leg of Larkdale. Both of these streets are wide enough to accommodate the double row of markers. Staff recommends that the City Council approve implementation of this plan. Our recommendation was to install raised pavement markers at all the approaches to the intersection. We checked the curb-to-curb width of Bristol Road and of Larkdale Avenue. Bristol Road from Tamarack Drive to Larkdale AvenUe is 40 feet wide west of Bristol Road, and 34 feet wide east of Bristol Road. Since both Bristol Road and Larkdale Avenue are 40 feet wide in the sections that are most critical for turning movement control, raised pavement markers per Caltrans Detail 23 should be installed. Please see Figure 1 for an indication of proposed marker installation.
