Roll Call: Committee Members (CM) Present: Diane Bonetti, Eddie Jo Mack, Lee Sandeman, Diana Threlkeld Committee Members Absent: Faye Guarienti Parks and Community Services Commission Liaison Present: Connie Mack Staff Present: Micki Cronin, Assistant Director of Parks and Community Services; Anna Hudson, Recreation Coordinator; Diane Guenther, Office Assistant Oral Communications-None Public Comments -None Approval of the Minutes CM BONETTI MADE A MOTION TO APPROVE THE APRIL 5, 2012 MINUTES. THE MOTION WAS SECONDED BY CM SANDEMAN. THE SENIOR ADVISORY COMMITTEE APPROVED THE MINUTES OF THE APRIL MEETING BY A VOTE OF 4-0-0 WITH CM GUARIENTI ABSENT. Written Communication—None Unfinished Business SENIOR CENTER ADVISORY COMMITTEE STRATEGIC GOALS AND OBJECTIVES Hudson reported that the Senior Center Advisory Committee Subcommittees met in April. Staff and Subcommittee Members provided a brief progress report on each Strategic Goal as follows: • #1 Strategic Goal: The Subcommittee is working on a presentation to be made to seniors attending local churches, and shared the process they are taking to make this happen. • #2 Strategic Goal: The Subcommittee reported that their involvement with the 2012 Car Show is completed with an Evaluation Meeting to be held on Tuesday, May 8. Staff announced a possibly of offering a new Fashion Show venue in 2013. • #3 Strategic Goal: The Subcommittee is researching the possibility of conducting a bus trip that will encompass the local historical facts of Dublin as well as touring the Dublin's parks, facilities and new developments in the community. They will also be assisting staff to finalize the Welcome Packet. Nancy del Soldato, member of the Dublin Senior Foundation, pointed out the Dublin San Ramon Women's Club will be sponsoring a Vintage Clothing Fashion Show in November and the Senior Center's Fashion Show would not want to conflict with that event. CITY OF DUBLIN SENIOR CENTER ADVISORY COMMITTEE MINUTES OF MAY 3,2012 Page 2 of 3 Carol McGeary, member of the Dublin Senior Foundation, asked if the Senior Center could offer a program to assist seniors who might be challenged and unable to fill out the necessary paperwork to apply for programs, and to request for reimbursement of any transportation fees. CM Sandeman noted that individuals who are experiencing memory issues are usually accompanied by a caregiver who would be able to assist them and that it is not always possible to accommodate every need. New Business SECOND ANNUAL ALL-AMERICA CAR SHOW Staff reported 67 cars were pre-registered, and 33 registered on the day of the event. The Car Show attracted approximately 300 visitors with four food trucks and DJ music. There were an estimated 400 visitors at the event which was held at Heritage Parks and Museums. Approximately 70 people visited Kolb House and 140 toured the Murray School House. Commissioner Mack commented that the kids in attendance who came to view the cars told her how much they really enjoyed the event. SPECTRUM COMMUNITY SERVICES LUNCH PROGRAM Staff provided a review on the background of the lunch program. CM Sandeman commented that after reading the review she thought the existing meal program is the best deal you can get. She asked if there might be an easier way to sign up for lunches. CM Mack and Bonetti also asked if there might be alternate ways to sign up for lunch. Staff reported that this process is developed by Spectrum Community Services to be cost-effective. There were questions about how to accommodate patrons who did not pre-register for lunch, but show up seeking a meal. Staff indicated those individuals can only be accommodated if there are extra meals from people who do not show up to purchase the meal they preordered. CM Sandeman asked about the possibility of having pre-bagged snacks available for purchase. Cronin suggested that Staff chart a period of time to see how many people come to the Center expecting to purchase a meal without pre-registering for the meal. The question was asked how many people show up for lunch who are not pre-registered. Staff will look at charting these points. Staff pointed out that one of the goals of the Spectrum Program was to get seniors out of their homes and socialize while receiving a congregate meal. Other Business CM Bonetti reported that the Dublin Senior Foundation will be sponsoring an Ice Cream Social on Wednesday, June 20th from 3:00 to 4:00 PM at the Dublin Senior Center; it is open to the public. She asked the Senior Center Advisory Committee Members to support this event and to invite a grandchild or a friend. The Dublin Senior Foundation participated in Dublin Pride Week and overall 600 volunteers participated. Commissioner Mack reported on the Parks and Community Services Commission meeting. The Commission voted on recommendations for names for the City's newest park. It was recommended to CITY OF DUBLIN SENIOR CENTER ADVISORY COMMITTEE MINUTES OF MAY 3,2012 Page 3 of 3 Council that the following names be considered: Dublin Canyon Park, Schaefer Ranch Park, and Dublin Highview Park. CM Mack noted that she is a member of Integrity in Action and stated that the fourth and fifth grade students will be making a presentation tonight on their ideas for bridging East/West Dublin. Commissioner Mack suggested the long-time residents of Dublin should contact the Heritage Parks and Museums Center to participate in the Dublin Oral History Project.
