SUBJECT: Acceptance of Work - Swim Center Roof Replacement Project

Accept improvements under Contract No. 02-13 and authorize the
release of the retention, less the cost of a replacement copier, in the
amount of $6,975.86 after 35 days if there are no subcontractor
claims.
FINANCIAL STATEMENT: The total budget for improvements was $82,550. The actual cost of
the improvements was $78,408.60.
DESCRIPTION: On October 1, 2002, the City Council awarded Contract 02-13, the
Dublin Swim Center Roof Replacement Project, to CBC Construction. The project provided for the
replacement of the roof on the main building and snack bar of the Dublin Swim Center, as well as the
installation of a new skylight and additional building ventilation. The project was satisfactorily completed
in March 2003. The project was partially funded by recycling grant money because the roofing tiles used
for the project are made of 100% recycled materials.
In December heavy rains folloxved the removal of the original roofing materials. A portion of the roof was
not properly protected from the rain, ~vhich led to water leaking onto the copier inside the Swim Center.
The copier no longer functions and needs to be replaced. Staff will purchase a new copier and subtract the
cost of the copier from the Contractor's retention.
RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends that the City Council accept the improvements under Contract No. 02-13 and authorize
the release of the retention, less the cost of a replacement copier, in the amount of $6,975.86 after 35 days
if there are no subcontractor claims.
