HomeMy WebLinkAbout8.3 Kolb Park Play Equipment ProposalsCITY CLERK File # ❑lavwml;2Id AGENDA STATEMENT CITY COUNCIL MEETING DATE: April 1, 2003 SUBJECT: Kolb Park Play Equipment Proposals Report Prepared by Rosemary Alex, Parks and Facilities Development Coordinator ATTACHMENTS: 1) Proposed Play Equipment —Site Plan and 3-D Rendering from NorCal Leisure Sales RECOMMENDATION: 1) Receive Presentation from Staff 2) Receive Public Comments 3) Approve the Play Equipment Design 4) Authorize Staff to Issue a Purchase Order for Equipment FINANCIAL STATEMENT: Authorized Budget to Purchase and Install Equipment: $112,000 Proposed Play Equipment $63,011 Available Funds to Complete Installation $48,989 DESCRIPTION: On January 21, 2003 the City Council authorized Staff to distribute a Request for Proposals for the Kolb Park Play Equipment Replacement Project. The proposals sought information from qualified play equipment representatives on play equipment components to replace the existing system. By the March 41" deadline, proposals were submitted from Ross Recreation, Playgrounds by Design, NorCal Leisure Sales, North State Playgrounds and David O'Keefe Company ranging in price from $56,706.59 to $63,011. Staff subsequently reviewed all five based on the following criteria, 1) Ability to meet functional requirements in terms of variety and age appropriateness of play elements, accessibility, safety considerations and ease of on -going maintenance. 2) Value of play apparatus and site improvements proposed. 3) Extent of manufacturer's "Green Building" program. Upon review, Staff recommended proposals from Ross Recreation, Playgrounds by Design and NorCal Leisure Sales for further consideration at the Parks and Community Services Commission meeting March ility requirements, safety considerations, ease of on- 17, 2003. The three proposals equally met accessibgoing maintenance and manufacturer's "Green Building" program. In order to assist the Parks and Community Services Commission with the decision -making, a table was prepared comparing the amount and variety of proposed play equipment from each vendor. Upon examination of the proposals the Commission recommends the play equipment proposed by NorCal Leisure Sales for City Council approval. Overall, NorCal Leisure Sales provided the greatest assortment and number of play elements in comparison to the other proposals. Bids for installation will be sought shortly after the vendor provng materials is determined. In consideration of the bidding and award process required, construction is expected to commence June 2003. RECOMMENDATION: Receive presentation, receive public comments, approve play equipment design and authorize Staff to issue a purchase order for the equipment.
