The City of Dublin's Creek Cleanup Day is an event that seeks to promote a culture of
stewardship for our community and the environment. The primary objective of Creek Cleanup
Day is to engage individuals in an organized cleanup of the City's creeks and waterways. Creek
Cleanup Day is a part of the larger California Coastal Cleanup Day, an event in which
volunteers from all over the state work to clean up their community's waterways. Since 1985,
over 1,100,000 Californians have participated in removing nearly 19 million pounds of trash and
recyclables from our beaches, lakes, creeks and streams. This year, Creek Cleanup Day Dublin
will be held on Saturday, September 15, 2012, and Staff is expecting to have about 25 -50
volunteers for cleanup activities.
The proposed 2012 Creek Cleanup Day activities are as follows:

Breakfast /Registration /Clean Water Information:
Creek Cleanup Day is scheduled for Saturday, September 15, 2012. Volunteers will arrive at 9
a.m. at Alamo Creek Park (7601 Shady Creek Road) and will be treated to a light breakfast and
will learn about why creek cleanups and environmental stewardship are important for our
waterways. Various Clean Water Program informational materials and giveaways will be handed
out to volunteers as well. Most importantly volunteers will take away the message that we want
"only rain down the storm drain," since all other items and materials can have harmful effects on
our waterways and the ecosystem.
Volunteer Projects:
At approximately 9:30 a.m., City Staff will give each team a quick overview of the day and then
dispatch the teams to their respective project locations. Volunteer cleanup projects this year will
include trash collection at the following locations: South San Ramon Creek behind Dublin High
School, Alamo Canal near the Civic Center, and North Alamo Creek near Alamo Creek Park. At
each location, volunteers and Staff will be tracking the types and approximate amount of trash
collected as a part of Creek Cleanup Day.
Lunch:
At approximately 11:30 a.m., volunteers will return to the registration area to drop off their
supplies and /or trash collected. Volunteers will then have the opportunity to attend a small pizza
luncheon provided by the City as a thank you for their efforts and to share their volunteer
experience with other volunteers.
NOTICING REQUIREMENTS /PUBLIC OUTREACH:
The success of Creek Cleanup Day is dependent on the public outreach campaign developed to
increase the community's awareness and participation in the activities and volunteer
opportunities. This year's public outreach efforts include:
• Past Volunteer Emails — In addition to receiving emails on a regular basis from
volunteers who are interested in participating in a clean water volunteer project,
the City also has a list of past volunteers for Dublin Pride Week Volunteer Day.
These volunteers have been contacted to volunteer for Creek Cleanup Day 2012.
• Website - — The City's web page, www .dublin.ca.gov /creekcleanupday, on Creek
Cleanup Day was developed as a way for participants to obtain up -to -date
information on the activities and volunteer opportunities surrounding Creek
Cleanup Day. The website also includes a place for volunteers to sign up to
participate in Creek Cleanup Day. The website is highlighted on all media and
outreach materials.
• Promotional posters — Posters (Attachment 1) displaying the Creek Cleanup Day
logo and information on the day were posted at City facilities. Staff has also
worked with the Key Club volunteer group at the high school to get information out
to interested students that need volunteer hours.
