The Parks and Community Services Strategic Plan includes several strategies that promote and support positive youth development. These strategies encourage the implementation of programs that are popular with the core customer market segment and are responsive to community and industry trends, and position programs and service delivery to be unique, competitive and responsive to customer needs and expectations. To this end, Staff has created a new class on Saturdays at the Shannon Community Center and Emerald Glen Activity Center for preschool aged children to assist in the achievement of this key initiative. The class is titled "Soar!" The addition of a Saturday preschool class is meant to primarily serve dual-career families and will provide an opportunity for children to experience a warm and caring environment, where they will be able to express themselves, learn new skills and simply have fun. Staff has also added a weekday morning story time program. The class is titled "Little Lovies" story time and will take place on Wednesday mornings at the Shannon Community Center. These new programs will be conducted by some of the same Preschool Instructors and Aides that work in the weekday preschool classes. The following is an overview of the additions.
