The following is a summary of the 2012 summer quarter. A detailed attendance report is found as Attachment 1. Daily Attendance 205 193 188 182 168 (65 days) (65 days) (65 days) (66 days) (66 days) Total Volunteer Hours 4,004 3714 3,448 3,433 3,532 Overview of Activities and Special Events The Senior Center experienced a 3% increase in attendance of the Programs and Activities. Several new classes offered this quarter included: Body Matrix, Folk Dance, and Zumba Gold. New workshops offered were Clipper Card Day and Welcome to Medicare. There was a steady increase of 2% in the "drop-in" attendance. On any given day, various groups of seniors meet regularly (daily or weekly) in the main lounge to play card games, watch television, access the Internet through public computers or Wi-Fi, or simply enjoy the free coffee and desserts. June The women's a cappella group, the Zingers, entertained 40 seniors during the Father's Day Luncheon. Nine students enjoyed the new Folk Dance class. The Trail Trekkers attendance averaged 24 participants a week. Getting Published, aone-day workshop was sold out with 29 people. Eleven seniors enjoyed a van trip to Carmel. The Dublin Senior Foundation held an ice cream social fundraiser after the bingo COPIES TO: ITEM NO.: 7.1 G:\SRADVCMTE\Statements\2012\10-04-12 SCAC Summer Quarterly Report.doc program that attracted over 50 seniors. BART returned to the Center and gave away 26 free Clipper Cards. July The Patriotic Luncheon attracted 40 people. An ice cream social was offered to thank patrons for their patience during the renovation period while waiting for the carpet in the hallways to be replaced and the halls to be repainted; over 100 people were served ice cream and apple pie daily for one week. The new Zumba Gold exercise class initially attracted 14 participants. Fourteen seniors enjoyed gourmet meals prepared by culinary students at Le Cordon Bleu in San Francisco on July 18. Seniors visited the Oakland Zoo and attended the Healthy Living Festival. August A 40-passenger bus was provided by the Area Agency on Aging of Alameda County to shuttle seniors from the Dublin and Pleasanton Senior Centers to the Annual Aging Festival at Chabot College in Hayward. The special luncheon, featuring the Dreamers trio from the theatrical group - Stagebridge -was attended by 35 seniors. The Oakland Zoo Conservation Mobile gave a presentation on the importance of recycling and using green products to protect the environment and animals; 12 participants enjoyed meeting the zoo staff and visiting animals. A free Body Matrix demo class was offered. Balance, Agility and Strength, taught by a certified instructor, drew an average attendance of 17 students. Activity "Drop-In" Fee Increase The Senior Center activity fee was increased from $1.25 to $1.50 to keep up with the increasing cost of operating a large facility. The Fee Ordinance was approved by City Council in August 2012. The last activity fee increase was in 2009. Volunteers The volunteer hours increased by 6% due to many high school students scheduled to volunteer during the summer. A second rush of applications has been accepted with the start of the new school year. Several high school students have been placed and are volunteering after school. Currently, the total number of volunteers is over two hundred. Donations We would like to acknowledge Serene Care Residential Home, for their $500 donation this quarter.
