BACKGROUND: As part of the 2012-2017 Capital Improvement Program the City Council authorized the renovation of the Shannon Park Water Play Area. On August 21, 2012 the City Council approved an agreement with Callander Associates Landscape Architecture (Callander) to complete the design. As part of the design process Callander prepared three design alternatives for the first community meeting held on September 27th at Shannon Community Center. Although notices were mailed to over 200 households in the neighborhood, and posted on the Shannon marque and the City's website for two weeks, there was no public attendance at the meeting. With that in mind, the approach to solicit input from the public shifted and the three design alternatives were placed on display in the lobby of Shannon Community Center. The public was asked to vote on their favorite design using stickers, and provide written comments on post-its. The display will remain in the lobby through October 12th and in the first week there were 39 votes and 10 comments provided. On the evening of the Parks and Community Services Commission Meeting the three designs will be displayed in the Civic Center lobby for further public comment. Between 6 pm and 7 pm Callander along with Staff will be available to answer any further questions on the design alternatives. At the meeting, a presentation on the design alternatives and will include a final vote on preferences and written comments for Commission consideration.
