STAFF REPORT CITY CLERK
File #820-80
CITY COUNCIL
DATE:February 5, 2012
TO:
Honorable Mayor and City Councilmembers
FROM:
Joni Pattillo, City Manager
SUBJECT:
Approve Parking Regulations on Amador Plaza Road
Prepared by Obaid Khan, Senior Civil Engineer (Traffic/Transportation)
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
This item will consider implementing a no-parking zone along the the cul-de-sac bulb at the
southern terminus of Amador Plaza Road to provide adequate clearance for emergency and
larger commercial vehicles to perform a turnaround maneuver.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
The cost to implement the no-parking zone along the cul-de-sac by installing up to three new
signs can be accommodated in the Fiscal Year 2012-2013 street maintenance operating
budget.
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends that the City Council adopt the resolution amending the Dublin Traffic Code
approving parking regulations on Amador Plaza Road.
Submitted By Reviewed By
Director of Public Works Assistant City Manager
DESCRIPTION:
There are currently no parking restrictions along the cul-de-sac at the southern terminus of
Amador Plaza. The diameter of the cul-de-sac from curb to curb is 72 feet. However, with cars
parked along the curb, the effective diameter of the cul-de-sac is reduced to 56 feet.
This current configuration is not sufficient for emergency and larger commercial vehicles to
perform a safe turnaround maneuver. In order to achieve the necessary clearance, staff is
proposing to implement a no-parking zone along the length of the cul-de-sac in the interest of
safety.
ITEM NO. 8.3
Staff also reviewed other similar commercial area cul-de-sacs throughout the City. It was found
that, with the exception of Sierra Lane where due to the presence of several driveways on-street
parking is not viable, all other commercial area cul-de-sacs are either wider and/or have on-
street parking restricted.
The proposed action would include the following addition:
Three new no-parking signs will be installed, along the curb return of the Amador Plaza
Road cul-de-sac
A draft resolution (Attachment 1) is included that would prohibit parking along the entire length
of cul-de-sac located at the southern terminus of Amador Plaza Road.
NOTICING REQUIREMENTS/PUBLIC OUTREACH:
Written notification of the proposed action was sent to property owners (Attachment 2) within
500 feet of the proposed parking restrictions. At the writing of this report, no comments were
received.
ATTACHMENTS:
1. Resolution Amending the Dublin Traffic Code Approving Parking
Regulation on Amador Plaza Road
