FINANCIAL STATEMENT: Staff will implement the program using existing resources allocated in the Fiscal Year 2012-2013 budget, augmented with sponsorships from ValleyCare ($5,000) and Kaiser Permanente ($2,500). DESCRIPTION: After presenting the City Council with various options on June 19, 2012, it was decided to partner with Live Healthy America, an online, nationwide, team-centric wellness program that motivates, educates, and empowers residents to achieve optimal health through its customized wellness challenges. From March 17 through May 25, 2013, the City of Dublin will be offering a "10 Week Wellness Challenge." By bringing together teams of friends, families, neighbors, and co-workers, Live Healthy Dublin will create a lifestyle of healthy habits, physical activity, improved nutrition, and weight loss. The participants register online and receive the following resources and tools to make staying motivated easy: • A Live Healthy training t-shirt • Unlimited access to the online resource center,which includes training and nutrition software • Weekly motivational and informative emails • Activity suggestions, nutrition, and recipe tips via the website • Personalized online tracking page and journal • A one-year subscription to a national lifestyle magazine • Educational sessions and active meetings COPIES TO: ITEM NO: 8.2 G:\COMMISSIONS&COMMITTEES\PARKS COMMISSION\AGNDSTMT\2013\2-11-13 Item 8.2 Live Healthy Dublin.doc Teams will be categorized as to their level of activity (beginner, intermediate, advanced) and their affiliation (business, school, friends and family). Each team member will set a goal of (weight loss or increased physical activity). How to Participate and Sign Up • Become a Team Captain • Choose one to nine individuals to be on your team • The Captain will collect team members' email addresses,t-shirt sizes and fees • Choose a team name. Get creative! • Register your team at www.liveheaIthydublin.com o Enter the City's group registration ID: LHDUBLIN to get started, and follow the prompts Marketing The Live Healthy Dublin "10 Week Wellness Challenge" has been and will continue to be promoted in a variety of ways. A "Live Healthy Dublin" Facebook page has been set up, and residents are invited to "like" the page in order to receive regular updates. Postcards and brochures have been distributed to City facilities, Dublin schools, the Chamber of Commerce, the Neighborhood Watch program, and local businesses. A Vertical Response message will be sent to all Dublin residents who have participated in Parks & Community Services activities; the Library's Lobby display case is featuring a two-week display on the Challenge; information will be in the Spring Activity Guide; and a press release and a newsflash will be distributed to local media outlets. Event Wrap-Up The "10 Week Wellness Challenge" will run from March 17 through May 25, 2013, with a closing event at the Dublin Farmer's Market on May 30, 2013. At this event, the City will announce the winning II teams, based on how many of their goals were reached during the challenge.
