HomeMy WebLinkAboutItem 3.3 Public Wrks Projct of Year Award STAFF REPORT CITY CLERK File #150-20 CITY COUNCIL DATE:April 2, 2013 TO: Honorable Mayor and City Councilmembers FROM: Joni Pattillo, City Manager SUBJECT: American Public Works Association's "2013 Project of the Year Award" – Alamo Canal Trail/I-580 Undercrossing Project Prepared by Ferd Del Rosario, Senior Civil Engineer EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: The City of Dublin and the East Bay Regional Park District were recently recognized by the American Public Works Association – Northern California Chapter with the “2013 Project of the Year Award for Small Cities” for the successful completion of the Alamo Canal Trail/I-580 Undercrossing Project. FINANCIAL IMPACT: None. RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends that the City Council receive the report and accept the award from the APWA Northern California Chapter President. Submitted By Reviewed By Director of Public Works Assistant City Manager DESCRIPTION: The City of Dublin and the East Bay Regional Park District were recently recognized by the American Public Works Association (APWA) - Northern California Chapter with the “2013 Project of the Year Award for Small Cities” for the successful completion of the Alamo Canal Trail/I-580 Undercrossing project. This new APWA award for 2013 was created for agencies from cities or counties with a population of 75,000 or less to promote excellence in demonstrating creativity, ingenuity, and efficiency in the delivery of public works projects that have had a profound impact on the community. Although small in size and cost, the Alamo Canal Trail project was nominated because of its positive impact on the community by closing the trail gap underneath the I-580 freeway, encouraging bicycling and walking, and promoting a healthier lifestyle. ITEM NO. 3.3 Page 1 of 2 The project is being nominated by the APWA Northern California Chapter for national recognition, and the winning projects will be recognized in August 2013 at the APWA International Public Works Congress to be held in Chicago, Illinois.
