DESCRIPTION:
Golden eagles are a federally protected species because of their declining population. The City
of Dublin’s climate, terrain, and vegetation provide an ideal habitat for golden eagles. In fact,
Dublin is home to a golden eagle affectionately known as Bella. Since 1989, Bella has been
documented to continuously return to her nesting spot in Dublin during the annual breeding
season which begins in January. Bella has again returned to her nest where she has given birth
to two baby eagles.
The City of Dublin has taken steps to preserve Bella’s nesting site, including the establishment
of a preserved habitat, restrictions on nearby construction activity during the annual nesting
season, and installation of a solar-powered camera to monitor Bella’s nest and provide live
viewing to the public. Routine monitoring and maintenance of the site and the camera are

conducted by Neighborhood Resources Staff. The live camera feed is located on the City’s
website under Environmental Programs.
During the St. Patrick’s Day Festival, Neighborhood Resources sought to further educate the
public about golden eagles by sharing facts about Bella, promoting the use of the City website to
view the live camera feed and by hosting a “Name Bella’s Baby!” contest for her newest babies
eagles.
A total of 230 entries were submitted by the public for Bella’s baby eagles and some of the
common names received include Dublin, Goldie, Lucky, and Patrick. The City Council will draw
the winning names from the submitted entries.
