HomeMy WebLinkAbout4 DRAFT Minutes from 03-27-2013 CITY OF DUBLIN YOUTH ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES OF Wednesday,March27,:2013 CALL TO ORDER The March 27, 2013 meeting of the Youth Advisory Committee was called to order at 7:01 PM at the Shannon Community Center by Chairperson Sung. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE Pledge of Allegiance was led by Chairperson Sung. ROLL CALL Committee Members (CM) Present: Brooke Brunckhorst,Vivian Sung,Tim Elkana, Marcos Castro, Angie Wang, Ben Sher, Kush Rastogi, Committee Members Absent: Callan Jackman,Jenny Dyer, lanna Fong, Alexa Padnos,Audrey Nunez, Dilpreet Anand, Rebecca DeGuzman, Courtney Haubert, Nazineen Kandahari Parks and Community Services Commission Liaison Representative Absent: Tristan Elias Staff Present: Henry Siu, Frank Luna Adult Member Absent: Ashley Wolfe ORAL COMMUNICATIONS Committee Member Rastogi indicated that he is a member of the Dublin High School Robotics Club. He stated, "An item on this evening's agenda contains a request for funding to the Dublin High School Robotics Club from the Youth Advisory Committee for the Youth Mini Grant program. Due to being a member of the Youth Advisory Committee, I have a remote interest in the decision, and may not participate in the voting/recommendation of funding for the Mini Grant program. I hereby abstain from all participation in this matter, and ask that my vote not be counted in determining the recommendation of funding for the Youth Mini Grant program." Committee Member Sher indicated that he is a member of the Dublin High School Speech and Debate Club. He stated, "An item on this evening's agenda contains a request for funding to the Dublin High School Speech and Debate Club from the Youth Advisory Committee for the Youth Mini Grant program. Due to being a member of the Youth Advisory Committee, I have a remote interest in the decision, and may not participate in the voting/recommendation of funding for the Mini Grant program. I hereby abstain from all participation in this matter, and ask that my vote not be counted in determining the recommendation of funding for the Youth Mini Grant program." MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING-February 27,2013 ON A MOTION BY CM BRUNCKHORST, SECONDED BY CM RASTOGI AND BY VOTE OF 7-0-0 WITH 6 MEMBERS ABSENT, THE YOUTH ADVISORY COMMITTEE VOTED TO APPROVE THE MINUTES OF FEBRUARY 27, 2013 AS PRESENTED. WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS-None UNFINISHED BUSINESS—None NEW BUSINESS Presentations from Qualified Youth Mini Grant Applicants Qualified Youth Mini Grant Applicants provided a 5-minute presentation giving an overview of their program/club which the Youth Advisory Committee Members evaluated. The applicants that provided presentations to the Youth Advisory Committee were: Dublin High School Book Club, Dublin High School Robotics Club, Dublin High School Speech and Debate Club, Fallon Middle School Robotics Club and Fallon Middle School Band. After listening to each club, Committee Members rated each group and provided a recommendation for funding to each club. ON A MOTION BY CM CASTRO, SECONDED BY CM WANG AND BY A VOTE OF 5-0-2 WITH COMMITTEE MEMBERS RASTOGI AND SHER ABSTAINING, THE COMMITTEE APPROVED FUNDING AMOUNTS TO THE QUALIFIED APPLICANTS FROM THE MINI GRANT PROGRAM, DUBLIN HIGH SCHOOL ROBOTICS CLUB- $350, DUBLIN HIGH SCHOOL SPEECH AND DEBATE CLUB- $75, DUBLIN HIGH SCHOOL BOOK CLUB- $75, FALLON MIDDLE SCHOOL ROBOTIC CLUB- $400 AND FALLON MIDDLE SCHOOL BAND-$300. OTHER BUSINESS—None ADJOURNMENT Being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 9:05 PM by Chairperson Sung.
