A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF DUBLIN
AMENDING THE CLASSIFICATION PLAN
WHEREAS, in accordance with the Personnel System Rules, the City Council adopted Resolution
No. 30-84 and subsequent amendments which comprise the Classification Plan; and
WHEREAS, it is necessary to periodically update existing job descriptions in order to insure that
the qualifications required are appropriate to the classification; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that Resolution No. 30-84 and subsequent amendments
shall be further amended to include the following updated classifications and job descriptions (Attachments
A-I):

Mayor
POOL MANAGER
THE POSITION
Under the direction of the Recreation Coordinator, plans, organizes, directs and supervises all aquatic
programs as related to the management and operation of a public swimming pool.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Hans, organizes and supervises swimming activities at a public swimming pool.
Schedules, supervises and evaluates part-time staff.
Assists with staff recruitment and hiring.
Hans and conducts in-service staff training.
Maintains staff rotation and staff breaks.
Assigns responsibility to the lifeguards when they are not in the guard chair.
Teaches certification classes as needed.
Serves as a swim instructor or lifeguard as needed.
Maintains good public relations.
Keeps current records and completes required reports.
Assists in the supervision of pool and building maintenance.
Informs the Coordinator when supplies are needed or equipment needs repair.
Other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
· .*. Must be 18 years of age or older.
· **- Minimum education equivalent to completion of high school.
o**- Minimum of two years training and experience in assisting with pool management.
Knowledge and Abilities
Demonstrated leadership abilities and ability to engage in physical activity.
Ability to follow written' and oral instructions.
Ability to perform all swimming strokes according to American Red Cross standards.
Ability to demonstrate lifesaving and emergency first aid skills.
Knowledge of use and care of lifesaving equipment used at public swimming pools.
Knowledge of basic pool chemistry and maintenance.
Ability to deal with stressful situations.
Ability to deal effectively with staff and pool patrons.
Ability to oversee, review and prepare reports related to the operation of the pool.
Ability to use word processing, desktop publishing and spreadsheet programs, is desirable.
Licenses, Certificates and other Requirements
o.*' Current certification required in the areas of Lifeguard Training, First Aid, CPR and
Water Safety Instruction.
°-*° Possession of a valid California Drivers License.

ASSISTANT POOL MANAGER
~HE POSITION
Under the supervision of the Pool Manager, assists in the planning, direction, leadership and staffing for a
variety of aquatic programs at a public swimming pool. Acts as the Manager in the Pool Manager's
absence.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Assists in the supervision of pool staff and instructs them in proper performance of their duties.
Assists in the supervision of the swim lesson program.
Enforces pool safety rules and regulations.
Serves as a swim instructor or lifeguard as needed.
Maintains accurate records and completes related reports.
Maintains discipline and orderly conduct among patrons.
Maintains good public relations.
Supervises weekend lifeguard team.
Other related duties as assigned.

SWIM INSTRUCTOR
THE POSITION
Under the supervision of the Pool Manager, provides instruction in all levels of American Red Cross swim
lessons and other aquatic programs._ May also serve as a Lifeguard to enforce pool rules and oversee the
conduct of patrons using the pool.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
· :. Develops lesson plans for swim classes.
· :. Instructs a variety of swim classes for all ages and ability levels.

CASHIER
THE POSITION
Under the supervision of the Pool Manager, responsible for collection of fees from pool patrons,
completing attendance and fmancial~reports, providing assistance to pool staff in emergency situations, and
handling participant registration for aquatic classes.

o:- Collection of public swimming fees and class registration.

being served.
o,', Assists with the issuing and collecting of equipment, games and supplies.

THE POSITION
This position is the second step in the series of Recreation Leader classifications. Assists in the leadership
of activities at playgrounds, parks, community centers, school sites and sports facilities. Assigned program
areas may include preschool, playgrounds, teens, special events and senior citizens.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
o**o Assists with the planning, supervision and implementation of recreational activities appropriate to the
age level being served.
Issues, receives and controls equipment, games and supplies.
Conducts activities in the areas of arts and crafts, games, sports, music, drama, nature study, etc.
Maintains effective public relations.
Instructs participants in the rules and methods of playing indoor and outdoor games.
Performs minor first aid to participants.
Observes precautions to safeguard participants and spectators.
Inspects program area and equipment, as well as recommends maintenance and repair.
Assists with report preparation and record keeping.
Maintains discipline at program site.
Other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
°7' Must be 16 years of age or older.
o:, One year experience as a Recreation Leader I or comparable work experience.
Knowledge and Abilities
Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
Ability to exercise good judgment, and deal effectively with the public.

Knowledge of leadership techniques, care and use of equipment and supplies, and basic knowledge of
sports, games and arts & crafts.

RECREATION SPECIALIST
THE POSITION
Under general supervision, performs advanced level work involving the organization and instruction of
various age groups in specialized program areas. Develops recreation course content and conducts classes
and programs. Exercises independent'judgment in the application of specialized knowledge and skills in
the conduct of the work. May supervise and train other staff and volunteers in the area of specialty or
assigned program area. Work is reviewed through periodic inspections, conferences, reports and formal
evaluations.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
· .*o Plans and conducts classes or programs in specialty field or assigned program area for various age
groups.
Stimulates interest and appreciation in specialty field or assigned program area.
Maintains equipment and supplies for classes or programs.
Furnishes technical guidance, demonstrates methods, conducts training in specialty field or assigned
program area.
Maintains control of classes or group.
Prepares promotional material and written reports as needed.
Encourages and maintains positive public relations.
Other related duties as assigned.
'QUALIFICATIONS Education and Experience
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and
abilities for the position. A typical way to obtain the education and experience would be:
· .'- Equivalent to graduation from high school, some college recreation classes or work in progress
towards a degree in recreation or related field.
· .'o Two 'years experience as a Recreation Leader II, or comparable work experience; one year experience
working in assigned program area is desirable.
· :- Two years of experience in teaching or conducting classes or programs in specialty field.
Knowledge and A bilities
· .'- Technical and professional knowledge of the assigned program area and skills in planning, organizing
and conducting a specialty class or recreation program.
· .'. Ability to conduct classes or programs in one or more areas within the specialty field and to work
cooperatively with other staff and the public.
°5° Ability to exercise independent judgment.
