DESCRIPTION:
Sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch, National Night Out began in 1984 as an
effort to promote involvement in crime prevention activities, police-community partnerships,
neighborhood camaraderie and building safer communities. Thousands of community groups
nationwide hold celebrations on the first Tuesday in August to display neighborhood unity. This
th
year marks the 30 anniversary of the program.
This year, Dublin’s’ Neighborhood Resources has retooled both National Night Out and the
Kickoff to accommodate the growing success of the events and to emphasize neighborhood
empowerment. The Kickoff will generate enthusiasm amongst Neighborhood Watch groups,
provide them with helpful materials to prepare for National Night Out, as well as acknowledge
their commitment to the program. This year’s event festivities will consist of informational
booths, a public safety display, an ice cream social and a raffle for National Night Out prizes.
The Kickoff and Ice Cream Social will be held on Wednesday, July 17 at Dublin Heritage Park
and Museums at 6:30pm; National Night Out will take place on Tuesday, August 6.
