FINANCIAL STAT~NT: The construction estimate for this portion of the work is $10,000.
The construction budget for the entire project is $50,214 (2003-04
recommended Capital Improvement Program update).
DESCRIPTION: The first phase of the Front Counter Upgrade project proposes to
reconfigure the shelf and drawer space under the Development Services counter to allow more efficient
storage and reduce clutter in the general area of the counter.
At the present time, only a limited number of documents and reference materials can be stored under the
counter. The proposed system would allow most of the handout materials and reference binders to be
stored on pull-out shelving to enable Staff to provide the information tO the public more quickly. In
addition, some of the computer equipment currently situated on top of the counter can be placed under the
counter to provide more countertop space and create a more pleasing appearance. This project will not
modify the actual structure of the counter or the terrazzo top.
The second phase of the project, which involves replacing the existing built-in desks with more functional
and ergonomic workstations, will be advertised separately for construction in July or August. As part of
the second phase, the area behind the counter will need to be re-carpeted, and the carpeting will not be
available until July or possibly August. Furthermore, fpotential vendors for the counter work itself are
different from the vendors for the workstations; therefore, it is more expedient to bid the two phases
separately.
Staff recommends that the City Council authorize the solicitation of bids for Contract 03-09, Front
Counter Upgrade, Phase 1.
