19 82 AGENDA STATEMENT
PARKS AND COMMUNITY SERVICES COMMISSION
FoR MEETING DATE: September 21, 2009
SUBJECT: Request from Dublin Little League to Construct Bullpens at the
Dublin Sports Grounds
Report by Diane Lowart, Parks & Community Services Director
ATTACHMENTS: 1) Overall Plan of New Bullpens on Field 3
RECOMMENDATION: 1) Receive presentation by Staff
2) Receive presentation from Dublin Little League
3) Provide recommendation to City Council on proposed project
FINANCIAL STATEMENT: The cost of the project would be paid for by Dublin Little League
DESCRIPTION: Dublin Little League has proposed a project to construct bullpens on
Field 3 at the Dublin Sports Grounds. Field 3 is the 90' diamond located to the west of the
restroom/snack bar building. The project involves the installation of chain link fence adjacent to the
existing backstop and dugout along with a partial clay pitching mound and home plate. The project
would be funded by Dublin Little League who would contract with a fencing company to have the work
done. A plan of the bullpens is shown in Attachment 1.
Staff has reviewed the proposed project and does not have any objections to the project. However,
because the Park Maintenance Budget for Fiscal Year 2009-2010 has been reduced by 10% in response to
the current economic conditions that the City is facing, if MCE assistance is needed with the project,
Dublin Little League will be required to reimburse the City for these costs. Dublin Little League has
verbally agreed to this condition.
Dublin Little League has successfully completed several other improvement projects at the Dublin Sports
Grounds including the construction of score booths and batting cages. If the project is ultimately
approved by the City Council, an improvement agreement will be needed to define the responsibilities of
the City and Dublin Little League.
RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends that the Parks and Community Services
Commission take the following action: 1) receive presentation by Staff; 2) receive presentation from
Dublin Little League; and 3) provide recommendation to City Council on proposed project.
