Prepared by John Hartnett, Heritage and Cultural Arts Manager
and Elizabeth Isles, Heritage Center Director
ATTACHMENTS: None
RECOMMENDATION: Receive Presentation
FINANCIAL STATEMENT: $4,225 Appropriation in FY 2008-2009
DESCRIPTION: One of the goals approved by the City Council for Fiscal Year 2008-
2009 for the Heritage and Cultural Arts Division included; create a "Virtual Tour" of Dublin's public art
and the Heritage Center museum that can be viewed on the city website. In late spring, Staff worked with
two separate consultants to develop virtual tours for both projects.
In the case of the public art project, photos were taken of every artwork piece fabricated and installed by
the City or in cooperation with the Dublin Fine Arts Foundation's Art in the Parks program. The artwork
is displayed in the virtual tour which includes a voice over about public art in Dublin. There is also an
interactive map where individual artworks can be identified with the name of the artist, artwork, type of
art and materials and specific locations. Finally, an updated Public Art Map can be downloaded from the
site.
For the virtual tour of the Heritage Center a voice over takes you through a video tour of the Murray
Schoolhouse "Journey" exhibit, the Little Classroom and St. Raymond's Church, showing various
programs such as school tours, workshops, bluegrass performances and outdoor activities.
At the August 13th meeting, Staff will present the virtual tours to the Heritage and Cultural Arts
Commission.
RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends that the Heritage and Cultural Arts Commission
receive the presentation.
