HomeMy WebLinkAbout8.1 Heritage Ctr Annual Rpt C01 Dr) 1()� 1 �az AGENDA STATEMENT HERITAGE AND CULTURAL ARTS COMMISSION IFOR MEETING DATE: June 11, 2009 SUBJECT: Heritage Center Annual Report Report Prepared by Elizabeth Isles, Heritage Center Director ATTACHMENTS: None RECOMMENDATION: Receive Report FINANCIAL STATEMENT: None DESCRIPTION: The following is a report on planned Heritage Center programs and activities for Fiscal Year 2009-2010. 2009-2010 PROGRAMS Archives Intern: The FY 2009-2010 Budget for the Heritage Center provides funding for a Summer Archive Internship to: (a) organize the document collection, (b) input the data to "Past Perfect" Museum Software and (c) copy and place documents in a binder for easy public access and cross reference. Jennifer Konkle, a student at California State University at Hayward, has been selected for the position and will begin working on the project in July and August 2009. Museum Assessment Program — Phase II (MAP): The application submitted for Phase II of the Museum Assessment Program FY 2008-2009 was accepted on June 17,2008. The MAP will take place in Fall 2009 and will involve selection of a reviewer, a workshop with the Heritage & Cultural Arts Commission, Dublin Historical Preservation Association and other stake holders, and a report with suggestions for implementation. Phase II involves a Public Dimension Assessment which assesses the museum's public perception, experience, and involvement with the museum. The assessment assists a museum in effectively communicating with the public and helps the museum identify and strengthen collaborations with other organizations around the country. It includes a review of all the ways in which the museum interacts with its audiences, including marketing,public relations, audience developments and exhibitions. Dublin History Park— Kolb House Opening: Of high importance in the 2009-2010 year is preparing for the Grand Opening of the Dublin Historic Park. A plan for operations will be developed that will address staffing, tour operations, logistics, security and numerous operational issues. Secondly, the Kolb Collection must be unpacked and redeemed for display. Each item will be catalogued by assigning a number, marking the item with the number and entering the data to `Past Perfect Museum Software'. Finally, the furnishings will be placed in the Kolb House and rooms will be prepared for the Grand Opening. COPIES TO: ITEM NO.: 8.1 GA\I-MRITAGE COMMISSION\AGENDA STMTS\2009\6-11 Heritage Center Report.doc Exhibits: Local History Exhibit— Following the success of the John Green Exhibit 2009, the Heritage Center will host an exhibit that will focus on another local Dublin family in the spring of 2010. Local history exhibits allow us to expand understanding and archival information on the subject and to share that with the public. Women's Club Exhibit - Following the successful partnership with the Dublin San Ramon Women's Club, another Student Art Exhibit will be scheduled for the spring of 2010. 2009-2010 EVENTS The Dublin Heritage Center is offering eight workshops, two exhibits, one Holiday Tea, two Irish Tea Room events (for St. Patrick's Day Festival), one Ice Cream Social and a Grand Opening for Dublin Historic Park/Kolb Buildings for a total of 15 public events in Fiscal Year 2009-2010. 2009 3 October Corn Festival Workshop 7 November Danish Traditions Workshop 5 December Old-Fashioned Holiday Workshop 13 December Holiday Tea 2010 TBA Grand Opening of Dublin Historic Park/Kolb Buildings 6 February Victorian Valentines Workshop 13/14 March Dublin Heritage Center Tea Cottage at the St. Patrick's Festival 3 April Victorian Nature Crafts Workshop 1 May May Day Workshop 5 June Western History Workshop 3 July Patriotic Ice Cream Social RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends that the Heritage and Cultural Arts Commission receive the report. 2 of 2
