Cultural Arts Classes Registration Report—2007 RECOMMENDATION: Receive Report FINANCIAL STATEMENT: None DESCRIPTION: The Heritage and Cultural Arts Division develops and implements quality programs that strengthen community image, preserve the City's heritage, provide recreational experiences, and encourage healthy lifestyles. This is accomplished by providing diverse cultural program offerings in areas such as music, theatre, dance, and visual arts. Following is a summary of programs conducted during fall 2008. CULTURAL ARTS CLASSES: Cultural Arts classes are intended to serve customers of all ages and cover a wide range of activities such as theatre classes and camps, dance classes and camps, and individual programs such as; ballet, piano, guitar, country line dance, Irish dance, drawing and painting, kindermusik, and others. Cultural Arts classes provide an opportunity for participants to attempt new experiences, refine current artistic skills and provide a social setting for meeting new people and sharing cultural arts experiences with friends and family members. Classes are taught by contracted specialty instructors. Most classes are taught in eight- week sessions but some are more or less than eight weeks and others are offered as one-time workshops. A total of 362 participants registered for Cultural Arts Classes during fall 2008, which was an increase of 22% compared to enrollment for fall 2007. Additionally, six more classes were held in fall 2008 as compared to fall 2007. The cancellation rate was 7% lower than 2007, as Staff continues to make an effort to purge classes that do not previously meet participation minimums. The average registration per class also increased slightly in 2008. Total revenue from class fees was up significantly this fall from $20,251 in fall 2007 to $30,065 in fall 2008. Popular classes included; Hip Hop for Youth & Teens, Belly Dance, Pre-Ballet, Art Experience for Kids, Country Line Dance, Dance Like the Stars and Kindermusik. Attachment 1 is a detailed Cultural Arts Classes Registration Report for fall 2008, which includes a breakdown of classes offered as well as the registration for each class. Attachment 2 is a Registration Report for fall 2007 for comparison purposes. Both programs met minimum enrollments, and the teachers will be expanding their class offerings in future sessions. • Tri-Valley Young Performers Academy (TVYPA): This program offered two new performing arts classes entitled; "Goldilocks on Trial" and "Readers Theatre". Each session, TVYPA will be offering youth from ages 6 to 18 an opportunity to rehearse new plays and theatrical exercises which will culminate in productions for friends and family at the conclusion of the session. Registration per Class 10.34 10.21 Classes Offered 51 47 Cancellation Rate 31% 38% Upcoming Winter-Spring Classes New classes for the winter and spring sessions include; Paint Play, Artist of the Day, Fantasy Art, Spring Art Master Workshop, Time Travel Art, Children's Classical Music Program, Fun with ABC's, Fun with 123's, Drama for Kids, Lullaby of Broadway Musical Review and Introduction to a Career in Voice Overs. Upcoming Summer Camps Each year, in an attempt to reach the parents and guardians of youth in our community prior to making plans for summer camps, the Parks & Community Services Department has offered an exclusive Summer Camp Brochure which contains all the summer camps offered by the City. This brochure will be made available at the St. Patrick's Day Festival, and registration for all the camps begins April 13th, more than a month before the normal summer class registration period begins on May 18th. The Dublin Recreation Guide for summer classes will also be published and mailed to residents on May 4th. Heritage and Cultural Arts programs included in the Camp brochure include returning programs; All 4 Dance Camp and Red House Music Camp, and new programs; Step It Up Irish Dance Camp, High School Musical— Song & Dance Review, The Wiz—Song & Dance Review, Seussical Junior Theatre Production, Performing Arts Recital Camp and Drama Camp for Little One's.
