HERITAGE AND CULTURAL ARTS COMMISSION
Draft Minutes
November 12, 2009
The November 12, 2009 meeting of the Heritage and Cultural Arts Commission was called to order at
7:01 p.m. at the Dublin Civic Center, Dublin, California, by Chair Carr.
PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE
Chair Carr led the Pledge of Allegiance.
ROLL CALL
Commissioners (Cm.) Present: Carr, Mack, Minniear,Nuckols, Tutino, Vonheeder-Leopold.
Cm. Mack joined the meeting at 7:10 p.m.
Commissioners Absent: Halket
ORAL COMMUNICATIONS—None
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
On a motion by Cm. Vonheeder-Leopold, seconded by Cm. Minniear, and by a vote of 5-0-0, with Vice
Chair Halket and Cm. Mack absent, the Commission voted to approve the minutes of October 8, 2009, as
presented.

NEW BUSINESS
8.1 POET LAUREATE/CITY HISTORIAN UPDATE
Mr. John Hartnett, Heritage and Cultural Arts Manager, presented the specifics of the item as outlined in
the Staff Report.
Ms. Ronnie Holland, Poet Laureate, provided an update on her past, current, and upcoming activities.
Chair Carr suggested having a poetry workshop for seniors. Ms. Holland stated that she hopes to
coordinate a poetry workshop with both teens and seniors.
Cm. Minniear suggested having a poetry slam for Dublin teenagers. Ms. Holland stated that she is
currently working with the Youth Advisory Committee on the possibility of having a poetry slam.
Cm. Vonheeder-Leopold, City Historian, provided an update on her past, current, and upcoming activities.
The Commission and Staff thanked Ms. Holland and Cm. Vonheeder-Leopold for their time and efforts.

8.2 SUMMER CONCERT SERIES
Mr. John Hartnett, Heritage and Cultural Arts Manager, presented the specifics of the item as outlined in
the Staff Report.
Cm. Mack stated that the music should entice both adult and teenaged attendees to dance.
Cm. Vonheeder-Leopold stated that the past variety of music has proven to be very well received based on
the positive feedback she has received from many attendees.
The Commissioners made several suggestions for different types of music for future Summer Concert
Series.
Cm. Vonheeder-Leopold suggested participating in a Tri-Valley joint mailing that lists all of the summer
concerts in the Tri-Valley. Mr. Hartnett stated that he meets regularly with arts representatives from
surrounding cities and would look into the possibility of participating in a joint mailing.
9.1 OTHER BUSINESS
Cm. Minniear reported that he attended the first Oral History training session, and attended the Dublin
Transit Center site walk hosted by Mr. Cliff Garten, artist for the Dublin Transit Center public art project.
Cm. Tutino reported that she worked with Ms. Elizabeth Isles, Heritage Center Director, to develop third
grade curriculum on the history of Dublin.
Cm. Vonheeder-Leopold reported on historical promotional material she retrieved during a recent
vacation.
Cm. Carr reminded the Commission of the Dublin/San Ramon Women's Club Student Art Contest.
Cm. Mack reported that she attended the Hometown Heroes event held at the Dublin Senior Center.
Mr. Hartnett reported on upcoming events and activities.

Being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 7:58 p.m.
