CITY OF DUBLIN HERITAGE AND CULTURAL ARTS COMMISSION Minutes February 12, 2009 The February 12, 2009 meeting of the Heritage and Cultural Arts Commission was called to order at 7:00 p.m. at the Dublin Civic Center, Dublin, California, by Chair Carr. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE Chair Carr led the Pledge of Allegiance. ROLL CALL Commissioners (Cm.) Present: Carr, Halket, Mack, Minniear, Nuckols, Tutino, Vonheeder-Leopold Commissioners Absent: None ORAL COMMUNICATIONS 3.1 Administration of Oath of Office to newly appointed Commissioner by City Clerk. Ms. Caroline Soto, City Clerk, administered the Oath of Office to newly appointed Commissioner Nuckols. APPROVAL OF MINUTES On a motion by Cm. Vonheeder-Leopold, seconded by Cm. Mack, and by a vote of 6-0-1, with newly appointed Cm. Nuckols abstaining from the vote, the Commission voted to approve the minutes of January 8, 2009 as presented. WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS -None PUBLIC HEARING -None UNFINISHED BUSINESS -None NEW BUSINESS 8.1 Dublin Heritage Center Webs ite Ms. Elizabeth Isles, Heritage Center Director, presented the specifics of the item as outlined in the Staff Report. Chair Carr remarked that the website is impressive. She stated that she has photos from past City events that she would like to share. Cm. Minniear suggested including information on how to contact the Heritage Center. Ms. Isles stated that the website is limited in the number of pages it can contain; however, she would contact the web designer to discuss including a"contact us" section on the website. Cm. Mack stated that she also has pictures from past City events to share. Cm. Tutino stated that the website will be a useful learning tool for youth. She suggested that the Dublin Unified School District (DUSD) be notified when the website is complete. Ms. Isles stated that she would send brochures and bookmarks to DUSD to notify when the website is launched. H&CAC Minutes—February 12,2009 Page 2 of 2 Vice Chair Halket stated the website is user friendly. She suggested notifying the School Libraries also. Chair Carr asked about the Heritage Center's policy on accepting historical photos from more recent times. Ms. Isles stated that the Heritage Center has a scope of collections that limits the photos to the years of 1960 and earlier; however, she believes the scope of collections will be adjusted in the future to include photos from the years of 1960 to the present. Cm. Minniear suggested including in the website a statement on how the public can donate photos or funds to the Heritage Center. Ms. Isles stated that this is a good idea and Staff would look into it. 9.1 Other Business Cm. Minniear discussed ideas for an oral history program that would cover the history of Dublin. He reported that he attended the Black History Month festivities last weekend. Cm. Tutino discussed ideas for Dublin seniors to share their oral stories. Cm. Vonheeder-Leopold suggested that the next Commission meeting be held at Camp Parks, which was confirmed by Heritage & Cultural Arts Manager John Hartnett. She reported on her attendance at the Black History Month festivities last weekend. Vice Chair Halket reported on her preparations for the Dublin Sister Cities' St. Patrick's Day festivities. She invited everyone to the Dublin Sister Cities' Green & White Gala. Chair Carr reported on her activities with the Dublin/San Ramon Women's Club's District Art Judging Contest. Cm. Nuckols discussed ideas for the oral history program. Cm. Mack thanked the Commissioners for their support of the Black History Month festivities. She also reported on her attendance at the Black History Month festivities last weekend. Mr. John Hartnett informed of the final Winter Concert being held on February 14 -15, 2009. Ms. Elizabeth Isles informed of the next Heritage Center workshop on Saturday, March 7, 2009; and the Heritage Center's festivities planned for St. Patrick's Day weekend, March 14-15, 2009.
