MINUTES OF. OCTOBER 24, 2007
CALL TO ORDER
The October 24, 2007 meeting of the Youth Advisory Committee was called to order at 7:05 PM at the
Dublin Civic Center Regional Meeting Room, by Chairperson Morgan King Jr.

Pledge of Allegiance was led by Chairperson King.

VOTE, THE COMMITTEE VOTED TO APPROVE THE MINUTES OF SEPTEMBER 26, 2007.

Teen Sports-Related Events
Recreation Supervisor Rich Jochner and Recreation Coordinator Robert Beasley presented information to
Committee Members regarding proposed "Keen Sports Events. In January 2007, the Youth Advisory
Committee recommended expanding sports-related events for youth and teens. The teen sports events
which are planned for the upcoming fiscal year are a kickball tournament, flag football tournament, and a
Dublin "Amazing Race" event. Committee Members liked the idea of offering a variety of teen focused
events.
CM Mike Pecota stated that the events would be successful if the cost of participating was priced at $5.00
or less. if possible Committee Members would prefer having the events free of charge if possible. CM
Minor suggested that Staff seek sponsors or donations for the events to keep the cost to the participant at a
minimurn. CM King Jr. also suggested that serving food at the events would encourage teens to
participate.
Teen Special Everts
Staff Member Gamez provided a schedule of teen events for the upcoming school year. Events scheduled
for the school year include: middle school dances, Capture the Cauldron/Creature, Youth Music
Showcases, March Madness, Teen Job Fair, Dub Town Jam, and Dive-In Movie. Committee Members
liked the variety of events offered.
CM Mike Pecota suggested to Committee Members that they get involved in planning, coordinating,
implementing one of the scheduled events. CM Pecota thought that planning an event from start to finish
would provide members with valuable event planning experience. Staff Member Gamez will provide
assistance to members who would like to gain experience in planning an event.
Publicity Subcommittee for Teen Special Events
Staff Member Gamez solicited volunteers for a publicity subcommittee for teen special events.
Committee Members who volunteered for the subcommittee were CM's Tran, Pontiflet, Minor, Edlund,
Brown, and Rogers. Staff Member Gamez will contact Committee Members regarding meeting times and
dates.
Teen Website Subcommittee
Staff Member Gamez asked for interested Committee Members to serve on teen website subcommittee.
Subcommittee members will assist Staff in providing ideas to improve the teen website. Committee
Members who volunteered are CM's Europa, King, Mike Pecota, Rose, and Minor. Staff Member Gamez
will contact Committee Members regarding meeting dates and times.
Dublin Tree L4,-hting Ceremony
Supervisor Luna solicited Committee Members to volunteer and assist in the set-up and clean-up at the
annual City of Dublin Tree Lighting Ceremony scheduled for November 29 volunteers are needed from
6:15 PM to 8:30 PM. Committee Members King, Minor, Mike Pecota, Europa, and Tran stated they
would be willing to volunteer. Luna will contact the Members regarding the times and responsibilities
they will have at the event.
OTHER B USINF_SS
Alameda County Youth Leadership Academy
Recreation Supervisor Frank Luna provided informational flyers to Committee Members about the
Alameda County Youth Leadership Academy. The Academy will take place in the months of December
2007, January, February and March 2008. The Academy is a free five-session course on County
government designed for high school juniors and seniors. Staff encouraged Committee Members to apply
to participate. The deadline to apply is November 30, 2007.

Being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:51 PM
