Roll Call Committee Members (CM) Present: Faye Guarienti, Holly Ito, Ramona Krausnick, Eddie Jo Mack Absent: Diane Bonetti Parks and Community Services Commission Liaison: Connie Mack Staff Present: Micki Cronin, Assistant Director of Parks and Recreation Services; Rich Jochner, Recreation Supervisor;Anna Hudson, Recreation Coordinator; Diane Guenther, Office Assistant Oral Communications-None Public Comments-None Approval of the Minutes CM ITO MADE A MOTION TO APPROVE THE JUNE b, 2013 MINUTES, THE MOTION WAS SECONDED BY CM GUARIENTI. THE SENIOR ADVISORY COMMITTEE APPROVED THE MINUTES OF THE JUNE MEETING BY VOTE OF 4-0-0, WITH CM. BONETTI ABSENT. Written Communication—None Unfinished Business-None New Business 7.1 2013 SPRING QUARTERLY REPORT Staff reported that participation in several activities at the Dublin Senior Center significantly increased, including Ukulele classes, as well as the lunch program, which increased 38% from this time last year. The trips and tours program also had a strong summer quarter. Staff commended CM Krausnick who volunteers as an instructor for the Everyday Life Skills in English class. The class is filled to capacity each month. Staff was asked what the "drop-in" numbers represent on the Quarterly Attendance Report. Staff stated these numbers represent the number of people who "drop-in" at the Senior Center lounge to socialize, read, or work on personal activities (such as writing projects, knitting projects, art projects), work puzzles or watch television. A few Wicklow Apartment regulars frequent the Senior Center as a great place to "hang out" and play games, while clubs, like the Red Hat Society, enjoy the lounge to meet and enjoy a cup of coffee. Others come to the lounge after class and others stop to chat with friends before heading home. 7.2 DUBLIN SENIOR CENTER EVENT TIMELINE Staff provided the Senior Center Advisory Committee Members with a monthly overview of planned meetings, activities and special events for the 2013-2014 Fiscal Year. The upcoming fall highlights include celebrating Senior Center Month in September, the Info Fair in October, and Hometown Heroes in November. CM Guarienti asked if the number of class offerings has increased. Staff stated that the types and variety of classes has certainly increased. Staff announced that the Info Fair Committee is planning and soliciting for business and senior services vendors to participate in this year's event. CM Krausnick asked if interpreters would be available at the Info Fair. Staff stated they would check with the Area Agency on Aging for input. Other Business 8.1 Brief informational only reports from the Dublin Senior Foundation, Parks and Community Service Commission Liaison, Advisory Committee Members and Sub-Committees, and/or Staff; and Reports by the Advisory Committee Members related to meetings attended at City Expense (AB1234). There was no Foundation report. The August meeting will be held on Wednesday, August 7. Commissioner Mack reported that at the Parks and Community Services Commission meeting three architectural design choices for the Emerald Glen Recreation and Aquatic Complex were presented. She also reported that the City and Dublin Unified School District were working in project to renovate the ! Dublin High School Tennis Complex. The Dublin Senior Center Advisory Committee Members signed up to represent the Senior Center at the Parks and Community Services Commission meetings for the remainder of 2013 calendar year. The question was raised if Dublin residents receive priority on waitlists for some of the activities offered, such as bridge instruction.Typically,waitlists are created to gauge the interest of the community, as well as, to offer a duplicate activity when a minimum number of participants are accumulated. Staff indicated that names are taken on a first-come, first-served basis. Staff also indicated that priority registration is only taken for activities and events in which pre-registration is required and where space is limited, such as van trips. Residents also do not receive priority on drop-in activities. Staff stated that a short statement will be placed in the newsletter reflecting this information.
