Staff presented the Committee Members with a current copy of the Senior Center newsletter, the Dublin
Doings, and explained how the newsletter is organized and how the activities and classes fulfill at least
one of the nine Senior Center core values.
CM Guarienti asked why the Dublin Community Car Show event was not included in the report. Ms.
Hudson stated that in order to use current examples, Staff focused on the events and activities listed in
the current newsletter, which is for September thru November 2013.
CM Ito commented that many of the activities could be listed under more than one core value and Ms.
Hudson agreed.
Ms. Hudson pointed out that newer classes and activities are highlighted in the newsletter with a "NEW"
indication so that they stand out to the reader. Ms. Hudson stated Staff is continually looking for new
activities to offer and volunteer instructors.
CM Guarienti commented on the dwindling participation in the Path Wanderers activity. Former Path
Wanderers group leader, Mr. Rich Guarienti, stated that he felt more people need to know about the
activity. Staff and Advisory Committee Members suggested various methods for promoting the activity.
It was also suggested the Path Wanderers consider hosting a booth at the upcoming Senior Center Info
Fair.
Staff provided Advisory Committee Members with flyers advertising the Senior Center Info Fair on
Saturday, October 5, 2013, and pointed out that several new agencies were participating this year.
CM Ito commented that most classes offered at the Senior Center appear to appeal to more women
than men and asked if programming was geared more towards women. Ms. Hudson explained that the
Dublin Senior Center offers a variety of activities that are suitable for both men and women and Staff
continues to strive to offer activities in which both genders can participate.
Other Business
CM Bonetti provided the Dublin Senior Foundation report. The fireworks booth earned $5,300 this year;
which was an increase of about $1,000 over last year. She further reported that the Annual Holiday
Boutique scheduled on Saturday, November 16, 2013, has 63 paid vendors registered thus far.
Volunteers are needed to work the event and the Dublin Senior Center Advisory Committee Members
were invited to volunteer by contacting the Foundation if interested.
Commissioner Mack reported the Parks and Community Services Commission discussed the Iron Horse
Park and Open Space project. She provided an overview of the public comments on this project which
mostly centered on concerns with increased traffic and the potential driving-out of native species in the
area.
