FINANCIAL STATEMENT: The'construction budget for this project is $8,500. The low bid received was $5,171. Afker reviewing the samples of materials to be used, Staff may change or upgrade a proposed material but will not exceed the funds budgeted in any case. DESCRIPTION: The dining area of the fire station is also used as a training facility. The hard surface walls, floor, and ceiling cause sounds to echo, which is detrimental to the training process. The project proposes to install acoustical ceiling tile and wall panels in the dining/training area to absorb a percentage of the sound. The City Council originally authorized Staff to advertise ~or iaids for this project on September 21, 1999. On the initial bidding, one bid was received which was far in excess of funds budgeted, and the bid was rejected. The project was re-advertised with a revised scope of work Again, one bid was received from L.J. Interiors: The bid was $5,171, which is well within funds budgeted. Staff has met with the contractor to discuss the scope of work Some possible upgrades of material were discussed but no decisions were made, pending receipt of samples. It was also determined that the remaining wall areas of the dining room should be repainted following installation of the wall panels so that the colors will match. In any case, the approved $8,500 budget will not be exceeded. ' · Staff has checked With refere. nces and recommends that the City Council adopt the resolution awarding Contract 99,12A to L.J.
