HomeMy WebLinkAbout7.2 2013 Hometown Heroes Overview 01, 2� AGENDA STATEMENT � SENIOR CENTER ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEETING DATE: NOVEMBER 7, 2013 SUBJECT: 2013 Hometown Heroes Overview Report Prepared by Anna Hudson, Recreation Coordinator ATTACHMENT: Event Flyer and Program RECOMMENDATION: Receive report FINANCIAL STATEMENT: None DESCRIPTION: The 6th Annual Hometown Heroes event was held at the Dublin Senior Center on Saturday, November 2, from 2:00 to 4:00 PM. This free event served as Dublin's Veterans' Day celebration event and was open to the public. The Wall of Heroes display with photos of veterans from the community was unveiled at 2 PM.The event program began with Kathy Blackburn of the Cooltones singing the National Anthem. Pastor David Kim of Pathways Church gave the invocation. Mayor Sbranti welcomed the crowd, and Garrison Commander of Camp Parks, Lieutenant Colonel Christopher P. Gerdes, recognized the veterans by branch of service. The Cooltones, a 40-piece band performed an Armed Forces Medley as well as several 1940s music favorites. Complimentary lite refreshments was provided in part by BI's Restaurants following the event. The City of Dublin Senior Center collected new white socks for U.S. troops to benefit Operation SAM (Supporting All Military). RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends the Senior Center Advisory Committee receive the report.
