The openings for the upcoming term were advertised at the local middle and high schools, on the City's website and press releases were sent to the Tri-Valley Herald, Valley Times and CTV. As per the Bylaws and Rules of Procedure for the Youth Advisory Committee, the composition of the Youth Advisory Committee is composed of a minimum of nine (9) and a maximum of thirteen (t3) youth members and two (2) alternates. At least three must be fi.om Middle School and six (6) from High School. Additionally, there are four (4) non-voting adult members representing Dublin Police Services, Dublin Unified School District, Dublin Chamber of Commerce, and the At-Large Community. The Mayor, with the approval of the City Council appoints the youth members, the one at-large adult member and the two alternates. The remaining three adult members are appointed by their representing agency/body. If there are insufficient applications to meet the Middle School~High School ratio, the Mayor may make appointments fi.om any of the grade levels. Thirteen applications were received for the youth member positions and two applications for the adult at- large member (applications attached). However, one of the youth did not reside in Dublin and is not eligible to serve on the Youth Advisory Committee but could serve on sub-committees of the Committee. I know about the Youth Advisory Committee because I was a part of it for this past year. 2. I know that the committee consists of high school and middle school members who plan and put on activities for the teens of Dublin. It is a great way to get involved, be it through a Karaoke Night or planning for the city that involves teen input. 3. I am interested in serving on the committee because I had such a terrific time this year. Planning fun activities for a diverse group of people is rewarding. It also gave me a glimpse at what a career through the city would be like. 4. Skills that I have that would make me a strong candidate for the Youth Advisory Committee are my responsibility, organization, time management, approachability, kindness, honesty, and hard work. I am able to involve everyone and be creative. I was the Student Council President of Saint Raymond School and I am a member of the Leadership class at Dublin High, which makes me a valuable go between for all three groups. My knowledge of how the Committee operates would promote our success and the time I have spent has not lessened my enthusiasm. 5. If I could be involved in the planning of only one event, I would want it to be Karaoke Night. This is one of the Youth Advisory Committee's events that draws a lot of local teens. It's something teens can go to with their friends on a Friday night when they otherwise would have nowhere to go. I would love to help people to have an even better experience than past years. 6. I will be involved in the Dublin High School Volleyball Team and the Leadership class. 7. These activities would not affect my time commitment to the Youth Advisory Committee. This year I was also on the Dublin High School Volleyball team and in Leadership class. I was always able to effectively plan this past year, while on the Committee, so that I wouldn't have to bail on commitments I had made. 8. If I was not selected, I would be interested in serving on the Teen Nights committee. From personal experience, I know teens are always looking for a place to hang out. Teen Nights are always fun and draw a large crowd. 9. I found out about the youth advisory committee through my friend that already participates in it. I have been to a few of the events and found that the events are entertaining and a good place to meet new people. I am interested in serving on the committee because it looks good on college transcript: and I think that I could contribute a lot to the committee. I possess ski!ls such as team work and ! like to motivate and provide fun things for people. If I could be involved in the planning of an event I would plan a cormnunity basebfill tournament because baseball is the best sport in the world and it is fun to play. Dm4mg the 03-04 school year I will be involved in mostly baseball and conditioning for- baseball. Baseball would not effect my commitment to the committee because I have found out that there is only one meeting per month and they aren't very long. What do you know about the Youth Advisory Committee? I only know the basic information about the Youth Advisory Committee. 3. Why are you interested in serving on this Committee? I didn't have an extra period to take leadership and help my city or school. So I'm trying to make it up by joining this committee. This program sounds very community influential. 4. What skills do you possess that would make you a strong candidate for the Youth Advisory Committee? I've been in Peer Mediation, Peer Counseling, and tried to join the Student Counsel. I'm also going to be in journalism at my school. Because journalism usually receives any news that happens in my school first, it might help Y.A.C.'s news resources. Aisc, it will help the program to do polls and surveys and obtain publicity of the program. 5. If you could be involved in the planning for one event, what would it be? Please explain. i'd like to help plan the Aids walk that happens at Dublin High. That program is really helpful to those who welcome the help. It rea]ly gives you a great community family sense and satisfaction that you've helped the community that has contributed so much to you, financially, with opportunities, experiences, and wisdom. 6. What activities are you currently involved in or will be involved in during the 2003-2004 school year?. I've signed up to help the Peer Mediation advisor during our presentation to the teachers' committee meeting. I'm also going to help out my school's California Scholarship Federation during the school year. I'm also signed up to help out at the animal rescue center. I also would like to continue to join the Peer Counseling program at school, Peer Tutoring, and Key Club. My friends and I are going to sign up as camp counselors for fifth grade camp. I'm also going to continue my art lessons and Chinese classes. 7. How would the activities in question #6 effect your time commitment to the Youth Advisory Committee? Even though I might be occupied by some activities, most of them are very flexible in time-wise. I'm willing to rotate my activities for this committee. I seriously want to join this Youth Advisory committee. I'm willing to drop some of my activities to make time for this committee. They don't take a lot of time anyway. 8. Amit Pande Youth Advisory Committee 2003-2004 1. I found out about the Youth Advisory Committee at my Junior Leader Meeting on June 9th. I was interested in the description of the program, so I decided to get involved. 2. I know that the Y.A.C. plans many teen events, including the upcoming Pool Party on June 27th. I also know that the mayor with the approval of the City Council appoints the members of the Y.A.C. 3. I want to take part in the Y.A.C. so I can get involved with the events taking place in the city. I want to get a greater appreciation of my city by making it a better place for teens. 4. I have several qualities that I think will make me a strong candidate. I get along with everyone; I am a very friendly person. I am not afraid to ask questions whenever they arise in my head. I have a very open personality, I don't follow people, people follow me. 5. I would like to be involved in planning the Youth Music Showcase. I myself am a musician, and I went to one of these showcases two years ago. This event should be publicized more, and there should be better stage planning for the musicians. I would be willing to help organize this event. 6. In the 2003-2004 school year, I will be involved in many school activities. For sports, I will be doing cross country, volleyball, and possibly soccer. I wanted to be an after-school tutor this year, but it conflicted with my carpool, so that is something I might try to do. Also, I will continue private piano lessons and I might resume drum lessons after taking a short break. Finally, I will run for school (ASB) president next year. 7. I assume that all these activities will involve a huge commitment time-wise, but seeing that the YAC meetings are only once a month, and on Thursdays, that shouldn't really be a problem. 8. If not selected, I would be interested in serving in the "Teen Nights" committee. 9. Committee: Application Questions 1. How did you find out about the Youth Advisory Committee? I was a member of the committee last year, but I originally found out about it from my sister, Laurel Smith, who served on the committee the past two years. I also heard about it at the Dub Town Jam a few years ago. 2. What do you know about the Youth Advisory Committee? I know that the Y.A.C. helps to plan and organize different events for Dublin's youth, such as the Dub Town Jm~ St. Patrick's Day activities, and Day on the Glen. The members work with adult advisors to plan and promote activities and events for city youths. It's also a lot of fun. 3. Why are you interested in serving on this Committee? I served on the committee last year, and had a great experience. I got the chance to work with new and interesting people on a variety of projects. I'm interested in meeting more people and sharing ideas. It's also a great way to have your voice heard, and a way for your ideas to actually become a reality. I chaired the Teen-Events sub-committee last year and am very interested in chairing the whole Y.A.C. this year if! make the committee. 4. What skills do you possess that would make yon a strong candidate for the Youth.Advisory Committee? I possess good leadership and organizational skills. I am creative and work well with others. When I work in a group I am not afraid to voice my opinions and ideas. Also last year I obtained useful skills from my time on the Y.A.C. that I know will be useful this year. 5. If you could be involved in the planning for one event, what would it be? Please explain. IfI could be involved in the planning of one event, I would want to help with the Day on the Glen. Each year we have had this event for the past few years, and each year it has grown bigger. It does this because new ideas are thought of each year and contributed the following year. I have some ideas of my own and wish to contribute them making the next Day on the Glen an even bigger success. 6. What activities are you currently involved in or will be involved in the 2003-2004 school year? In the 2003-2004 school year, I will possibly be on the JV boy's basketball team. I plan to really dedicate myself to only a few activities, which will not conflict with YAC. 7. How would activities in #6 effect your time commitment to the Youth Advisory Committee? The only time basketball could conflict with YAC would be an occasional time where a monthly meeting and a game are scheduled at the same time. I do not foresee this happening and believe games are on Mon/Wed and YAC is Thursday' s. This year, I will be able to fully commit myself to the Y.A.C. 8. If you are not selected to the Youth Advisory Committee, would you be interested in serving on one of the following committees? a. Publicity and Promotionsb. Special Event Planning c. Teen Nights d. Dub Town Jam I would be interested in serving on thc Day on the Glen committee. It was a fun experience to help plan and participate in last year, and I'd like to help out again this year even ifI am not selected for Y.A.C. Name of Applicant: Sarah Pan YAC Application 2003-2004 (Questions from the application) 1. How did you find out about the Youth Advisory Committee? I found out about the Youth Advisory Committee as a freshman from a friend who was a former member of the Youth Advisory Committee. 2. What do you know about the Youth Advisory Committee? I know that the Youth Advisory Committee is a committee that organizes monthly teen events, helps out with the day events, and performs a lot of community services in Dublin. 3. Why are you interested in serving on this Committee? I am interested in serving on this Committee because I believe that being able to organize teen events and do community service is a great thing to do for the city of Dublin. I also believe that aside from school, teens need time to relax once in while by attending the monthly teen events or other special events. 4. What skills do you possess that would make you a strong candidate for the Youth Advisory Committee? The skills i possess that would make me a strong candidate for the Youth Advisory Committee are: communicating with the people I work with effectively, being able to collaborate with just about everyone I meet, thinking up of new ideas for teen events, and the willingness to commit myself to the new 2003-2004 year. 5. If you could be involved in the planning for one event, what would it be? Please explain. If I could be involved in the planning for one event, it would be the Dub Town Jam because this special event includes a lot of fun and exciting activities for the teens to participate in. Also, Dub Town Jam usually takes place near the end of the year and that is when all the students have completed just about all of their large projects and or other large writing assignments. Therefore, by organizing the Dub Town Jam in the middle of May, students receive the opportunity to relax and have a blast at this event after 7months of completing so much arduous work in school. 6. What activities are you currently involved in or will be involved in during the 2003-2004 school year?. The activities I am currently involved in are: Scholars Of Society Club, American Sign Language Club, LEO Club, and CSF Club (a scholarship club). I have also participated in the girls' tennis team for the 2002-2003 school year in September and October. i plan to join more clubs for the 2003-2004 year such as the Interact Club and Fish Club. 7. How would the activities in question #6 effect your time commitment to the Youth Advisory Committee? The activities in question #6 would not affect my time in my commitment to the Youth Advisory Committee at all because this year, I will not be joining the girls' tennis team. Instead, I will be joining an additional Interact Club. Although there are some activities that go on after school for the Interact Club, this additional club does not take up a lot of extra time, so I will be able to fully commit myself to the Youth Advisory Committee for the 2003-2004 year. 8. if you are not selected to the Youth Advisory Committee, would you be interested in serving on one of the following committees: Yes, I would be interested in serving on the Dub Town Jam subcommittee. 9.
