The cabling project Schedule corresponds to the two phases of the Civic Center Renovatio~ and Expansion Project. During Phase 1; the cabling contractor will install two data and two voice cables to thirty (30) office and cubicle locations on the Civic Center 1't and 2"a floors. During Phase 2, the cabling contractor will install two dam and two voic_e cables to thirty six (36) locations in Police Services and renovated sections of the City Hall side of the Civic Center. As the distance from the expansion space to the existing main computer room exceeds the maximum allowible distance for Ethernet, the contractor will install a new data closet on the north end of the City Hall side of the Civic Center. The new closet will be tied into the existing network via a fiber optic cable connection to the main computer room. The cabling contractor will work closely with E.V. Heathom, the general contractor for the Civic Center project, to install the cabling in the most efficient manner. BID RESULTS A total of five bids (RK Electric, $18,800; RFI Communications, $31,403.00; D&W Communications, $38,867.35;IDT Communications, $39,273.25) were received with the lowest responsible bidder being COPIES TO: Semans ITEM NO. Semans Communications at $27,296.58. RK Electric's! bid did not include major portions of the work and ~.~ was subsequently withdram by RK Electric. Staff recommends adding a 10 percent contingency, which brings the total funds needed to $30,026.24. CONCLUSION Staff has reviewed the bid results, checked with references, and recommends that the City Council adopt · the resolution in Attachment 1 awarding the bid to Semans Communications. RESOLUTION NO. - 99 A RESOLUTION OF TltE CITY COUNCIL OF ~ CITY OF DUBLIN AWARDING A CONTRACT TO SEMANS COMMUNICATIONS, INC. FOR INSTALLING VOICE AND DATA CABLING FOR TIlE CMC CENTER REMODEL W1TEREAS, the 1998-2000 Capital Improvement program includes funding for the Civic Center Remodel; and WEREAS, the City sent out a Request for Bids to five construction firms and received five bids in response; and WFrEREAS, Semans Communications, Inc., prepared the lowest bid estimate and was determined to be qualified to do the work. - NOW, TItEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council hereby approves the coreract with Semans Communications, Inc., for installation of voice and data cabling for the Civic Center Remodel. PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED, this 5th day of October, 1999. FOR INSTALLING VOICE AND DATA CABLING FOR THE CIVIC CENTER REMODEL WHEREAS, the 1998~2000 Capital Improvement program includes funding for computer and voice cabling as part of the Civic Center Remodel; and WHEREAS, the City sent out a Request for Bids to five construction firms and received five bids in response; and WHEREAS, Semans Communications, Inc., prepared the lowest bid estimate; and was determined to be qualified to do the work; and WHEREAS, Semans Communications, Inc, bid was submitted in an unsealed envelope twenty-five minutes prior to bid opening and was in possession of the City Clerk at all times from receipt until bid opening; and WHEREAS the City Council finds that is in the public interest to waive the minor irregularity (unsealed envelope); and NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council waives the minor irregularity and hereby approves the contract with Semans Communications, Inc., for installation of voice and data cabling for the Civic Center Remodel.
