FINANCIAL STATEMENT: None DESCRIPTION: The City coordinates three teen volunteer programs including the Youth Advisory Committee (YAC), Junior Leader Program (JLP), and the Junior Aquatic Water Safety Program (JAWS). The YAC offers volunteers an opportunity to become involved in the planning and implementation of teen programs and events. Those volunteering with JLP program assist with the daily operation of the City's summer day camp programs. The JAWS volunteers assist with teaching swimming lessons and recreational swimming at the Dublin Swim Center. Each program provides the volunteers with valuable job training and leadership skills. Many of the volunteers seek employment with the City when they are old enough to be employed. This has had a positive impact on employee recruitment and retention for the Parks and Community Services Department. This year over 60 teens participated in the City's volunteer programs. The teens provided over 3,900 volunteer hours, which is the most assistance the City has ever received. The efforts of these volunteers have helped the City to provide outstanding programs and activities that are fun, safe and rewarding for participants. The service provided by the volunteers has also helped to make Dublin and even better place to live and play. RECOMMENDATION: In recognition of their service it is recommended the City Council formally recognize the volunteers with certificates of appreciation.
