HomeMy WebLinkAbout10-10-2013 HCAC Approved Minutes HERITAGE AND CULTURAL ARTS COMMISSION REGULAR MEETING Minutes CITY OF DUBLIN October 10, 2013 The October 10, 2013 Regular Meeting of the Heritage and Cultural Arts Commission was called to order at 7:00 PM at the Dublin Civic Center, Dublin, California, by Chair Vanderpool. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE Chair Vanderpool led the Pledge of Allegiance. ROLL CALL Commissioners (Cm.) Present: Carr, Deets, Iharosi, Minniear, Vanderpool,Tutino Commissioner Absent: King ORAL COMMUNICATIONS 3.1 PUBLIC COMMENTS—None APPROVAL OF MINUTES 4.1 August 8, 2013 On a motion by Cm. Minniear, seconded by Cm. Deets, and by a vote of 5-0-0 with Cms. King and Tutino absent, the Commission voted to approve the minutes of August 8, 2013, with one amendment as requested by Cm. Deets. Cm. Tutino arrived subsequent to the approval of minutes. WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS— None PUBLIC HEARING—None UNFINISHED BUSINESS—None NEW BUSINESS 8.1 Summer Quarterly Report Ms. Ann Mottola, Heritage and Cultural Arts Manager, presented the specifics of the item as outlined in the Staff Report. Chair Vanderpool expressed concern about the differences in the volunteer comparison from summer 2012. Ms. Mottola sated she would look into the reasons for the differences and report back at a future meeting. Cm. Iharosi requested a preview of the "Then and Now" interactive web-based project before it is finalized. Ms. Mottola stated she would arrange for a preview of the project components at a future meeting. Cm. Minniear stated he would like to be notified when the lights are repaired on the public art piece entitled, "Dubliner." Ms. Mottola stated that she would continue to provide updates on the repair of the art piece to the Commission. H&CAC Minutes—October 10,2013—Page 2 of 2 Cm. Minniear asked about the public art piece at Avalon Bay Communities near the east Dublin BART Station. Ms. Mottola stated that the developer-owned art piece should be completed by the end of the month. 8.2 Emerald Glen Recreation and Aquatics Complex Public Art Selection Committee Ms. Ann Mottola, Heritage and Cultural Arts Manager, presented the specifics of the item as outlined in the Staff Report. Cm. Tutino volunteered to serve as the primary on the Committee and Cm. Deets volunteered to serve as the alternate. On a motion by Cm. Minniear, seconded by Vice Chair Carr, and by a vote of 6-0-0 with Cm. King absent, the Commission voted to select Cm. Tutino as the primary and Cm. Deets as the alternate for the Emerald Glen Recreation and Aquatics Complex Public Art Selection Committee. OTHER BUSINESS 9.1 BRIEF INFORMATION ONLY REPORTS FROM HERITAGE & CULTURAL ARTS COMMISSIONERS AND/OR STAFF Vice Chair Carr reported that she attended the splatter event in September. She further asked about status on the citywide public art map project. Ms. Mottola stated Staff is working on an inventory of the City's public art that should be completed within the next six months. Cm. Minniear reported that he attended the splatter event. In addition, he asked about additional Veterans Day celebrations in the City and asked for an update on the cemetery project. Ms. Mottola stated that she would look into these items and report back at a future meeting. Cm. Tutino reported that she attended the splatter event. Chair Vanderpool stated that she would not be in attendance at the next Commission meeting. Ms. Mottola provided program and project updates.
