CM Guarienti asked about the increase in attendance in the lunch program. Staff explained that Bingo
attendance is up and more people are coming in for lunch prior to the start of Bingo.
7.2 2013 SPECTRUM COMMUNITY SERVICES LUNCH PROGRAM
Staff informed the Dublin Senior Center Advisory Committee Members that Spectrum Community
Services is contracted by the Alameda County Area Agency on Aging and is a federally funded program.
Spectrum provides meals for seniors at 30 Alameda County locations. The goal of the Lunch Program is
to provide a healthy, balanced daily meal in a congregate setting.
Staff presented the Committee Members with a copy of the September menu and the results of the
2013 survey. The survey revealed that most patrons thought the food was tasty and pleasing. Of those
surveyed 100%would recommend the lunch program to others.
CM Ito asked about the average lunch attendance on Wednesdays (also Bingo Day). Staff stated
approximately 25 to 35 patrons sign up for lunch on Wednesdays, and eight to 12 patrons sign up for
lunch on the other days. Staff also noted that a chef salad is a daily alternative to the hot meal and on
days when soup in on the menu a hamburger or veggie burger is an option. CM Guarienti recommended
offering meatless Monday, as opposed to having the optional salad. CM Guarienti stated the importance
of helping people think about healthy alternatives to meat. CM Bonetti stated that this suggested
recommendation might not be feasible since Spectrum provides lunch to 30 sites. Staff stated that they
will mention this idea to Spectrum.
Mr. Jochner asked the Committee Members if they would like to attend lunch as a group one day. The
Committee Members deferred their decision to a future meeting when all of the Advisory Committee
members are present.
Staff stated it was suggested the Senior Center provide an alternate lunch on Bingo Day offering a choice
of either the Spectrum meal or something from a local sandwich shop. CM Bonetti asked if the City
would subsidize the lunch alternative if it was a much higher price. Staff stated they will look into this
idea and report back to the Advisory Committee at a future meeting.
CM Ito suggested placing short surveys on the lunch tables to get feedback on the meal served that day.
Staff stated they would look into this idea and report back to the Advisory Committee at a future
meeting.
Staff suggested the idea of using a caterer for the special luncheons; this would also allow for the meal
to reflect the theme of the entertainment. Ms. Connie Mack suggested contacting local businesses
