FINANCIAL STATEMENT: None DESCRIPTION: At the October Senior Center Advisory Committee meeting, Staff stated it would provide information on an alternate lunch on Bingo Day offering a choice of either the Spectrum meal or something from a local sandwich shop. Local restaurants in close proximity to the Senior Center were surveyed for Wednesdays (Bingo days) and the results are listed below from lowest cost to highest cost: Restaurant Item Description Cost per person (cost,tax and convenience fee) Subway Combo 6" sandwich plus 21 oz. $ 5.36 drink Sprouts Combo Sandwich, chips, 4 oz. salad $ 5.99 & 16 oz. bottled water Chipotle Bowl, Burrito Chicken or Vegetarian $ 7.81 or Salad Steak, Barbacoa or Carnitas $ 8.81 Panera Pick 2 Any two of the following: $ 8.84 Cup of Soup, Half Cafe Sandwich or Half Cafe Salad Eric's Deli Half Any half"Sandwich with $ 9.04 Sandwich Character" served with a Combo Bowl of Soup, House Salad, or a Deli Salad For all items the direct cost of the meal plus a $1.00 convenience fee was added. COPIES TO: ITEM NO: 7.1 GACOMMISSIONS&COMMITTEES\SRADVCMTE\Statements\7.1 Sr Ctr Alternative Lunch Program.doc Staff recommends: • Alternate between restaurants on a weekly basis(only one restaurant used per week). • Order deadline would be 1:00 PM the day prior as is currently established with Spectrum. • Lunches must be pre-paid in cash and are non-refundable. • Staff will create pre-printed order forms for patrons to fill out and submit with payment. • Amounts would be rounded off to the nearest quarter dollar. • Staff will establish the framework on how to safely transport the food. Also at the October Senior Center Advisory Committee meeting, Staff stated it would provide information on using a caterer for the special luncheons; this would also allow for the meal to reflect the theme of the entertainment. Elephant Bar restaurant, also in close proximity to the Senior Center, was contacted about Special Event day lunches. Using the existing lunch menu, the following were options, listed from lowest cost to highest cost: Item Description Cost per person (cost,tax and convenience fee) Pacific Rim Chicken 2 tacos served with Asian $ 7.00 Tacos and Chips slaw, chips and salsa Thai Vegetable and Wok-fired fresh $ 8.58 Noodle Stir-fry vegetables with rice noodles Smoked Turkey Melt Sandwich with soup or $ 8.95 salad Soup and salad Choice of 2 with garlic $ 8.90 bread: Tomato basil bisque Soup of the day Garden salad Caesar salad For all items the direct cost of the meal plus a $1.00 convenience fee was added. The cost of entertainment has not yet been added. Staff has not yet engaged Elephant Bar Restaurant into further discussions regarding themed lunches. This would involve establishing set minimums and creating a menu. RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends that the Senior Center Advisory Committee receive the report and provide input. 2 of 2
