HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 104-93 SmokeFreeWkplaceRESOLUTION NO. 104 - 93 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DUBLIN SUPPORTING STATEWIDE LEGISLATION REQUIRING ALL WORKPLACES AND PUBLIC PLACES TO BE SMOKE-FREE WHEREAS, the City of Dublin has discussed the passage of a comprehensive 100% smoke-free worksite and public place ordinance to protect the health of residents, workers and visitors; and WHEREAS, the State of California is considering statewide tobacco control legislation; and WHEREAS, local governments have the obligation to protect their citizens' health; and WHEREAS, local governments, in response to their communities' wishes, should have the sovereign right to pass local laws that are stronger than state tobacco control legislation. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Dublin City Council reaffirms its commitment to protecting the health and safety of its citizens by passing local laws that help make a smoke-free environment; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Dublin City Council urges all Dublin citizens and workers to inform our state representatives of our support for statewide tobacco control legislation that allows communities the option of passing stronger local laws. PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED this 23rd day of August, 1993, by the following vote: AYES: Councilmembers Burton, Houston, Howard, Moffatt and Mayor Snyder NOES: None ABSENT: None ABSTAIN: None ATTEST
