Affordable Housing Week Proclamation

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
The City Council will recognize East Bay Housing Organizations and proclaim it Affordable
Housing Week from May 9-18, 2014.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
None.
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends the City Council recognize East Bay Housing Organizations (EBHO) for their
efforts in preserving, protecting and expanding affordable housing opportunities throughout
Alameda County by proclaiming May 9 - May 18, 2014, as Affordable Housing Week.

DESCRIPTION:
The City of Dublin has been successful in developing active and innovative affordable housing
programs by instituting policies that encourage development within the community. Through
successful partnerships with developers and non-profit housing providers, the City has created
over 1,100 Below Market Rate Units, both rental and ownership. The City’s First Time
Homebuyer Loan Program augments the existing housing programs to further improve the
quality and variety of housing programs offered by the City.
East Bay Housing Organizations (EBHO) is celebrating its 30th anniversary and the collective
work of its 350 members to solve the affordable housing crisis and stabilize communities.
EBHO has organized Affordable Housing Week for 18 years and in its 30th anniversary year will
feature 23 events acknowledging the need for and contributions of affordable housing.

CALIFORNIA
WHEREAS, quality affordable housing is the foundation for health, economic stability, and educational opportunity; and
WHEREAS, affordable homes are a solution to homelessness, and provide support to seniors, veterans, and people with
disabilities; and
WHEREAS, quality affordable homes are long-term assets in their communities, contributing to public safety and community
involvement; and
WHEREAS development of affordable homes close to public transit and jobs will help reduce greenhouse gas emissions and
strengthen the economy by providing low income families better access to opportunities and urban amenities; and
WHEREAS, rising housing costs and economic factors have led to increasing displacement, overcrowding, and homelessness
that threaten our region’s diversity and economic prosperity; and
WHEREAS, non-profit organizations, local jurisdictions, community organizations and many others continue to respond to
this need by providing homes and shelter for low-income people and those with special needs; and
WHEREAS, East Bay Housing Organizations (EBHO) is celebrating its 30 anniversary and the collective work of its 350

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that I, Tim Sbranti, Mayor of Dublin, on behalf of the entire City Council, hereby
proclaim the week of May 9 – 18, 2014 as “Affordable Housing Week” in the City of Dublin, the City will continue to work
collaboratively to secure sustainable funding and support for affordable housing.
