CRUISERS AGAINST DRUGS
PROPOSAL FORM
DESCRIBE THE BASIS OF THE PROPOSAL:
The Dublin Police Services Crime Prevention Unit would like to create a "Parent' s Guide
to Teenage Drug Use". This handbook would include information for both parents and
teenagers regarding the dangers and warning signs of drug use, specific information on
illegal drugs, and a listing of available assistance and resources for drug use.
GEOGRAPIIIC AREA AND KIDS SUPPORTED
This book would be targeted for the parents of middle and high school students in the
Dublin area. Crime Prevention would have these handbooks available at our community
events, which generally attract citizens from all of the Tri-Valley. Patrol Officers would
have these books available to give out when they responded to a call and they felt the
book was appropriate for the situation.
FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE REQUIRED INCLUDING SPECIFICS ON HOW
THE MONEY WILL BE SPENT:
Financial assistance of $1000 would allow the Crime Prevention Unit to pay for the
printing, binding and reproduction of the books. Citizen volunteers and Police staff
would complete the compiling and scanning of information. Distribution would be
completed through Police personnel.
PLEASE GIVE THE BACKGROUND ON YOUR ORGANIZATION AND
PRESENT OR PREVIOUS PROGRAMS:
A yearly Drug Education program is coordinated between Dublin Police Services and the
Dublin Unified School District. This program helps students become more informed and
self-confident regarding drug, alcohol and tobacco use. Students are mentally prepared to
say "no" when pressured by peers to experiment with drugs. During 1999, the Crime
Prevention Unit made 175 presentations to over 4,800 students. Our program continues
to receive widespread support from the community, schools and businesses. The Parents
handbook would allow Family members to reinforce what Dublin Police is currently
teaching and be used as a valuable resource.
Please return completed form to:
