The League of American Bicyclists has named the month of May as National Bike Month. Bike -
related events were held throughout the nation to promote the many benefits of bicycling, which
include alleviating traffic congestion, reducing air pollution, and decreasing fossil fuel
consumption. The flagship event of National Bike Month is Bike to Work Day, which celebrated
its 20th anniversary this year.
At the April 15, 2014 meeting, the City Council proclaimed May 8th as "Bike to Work Day" and
the month of May as "Bike Month" in the City of Dublin. The City of Dublin provided a financial
contribution of $2,500 to Bike East Bay (formerly East Bay Bicycle Coalition) to help promote
events and activities related to "Bike to Work Day." Additionally, the City of Dublin co- hosted
Energizer Stations at the East and West Dublin /Pleasanton BART stations. The City of Dublin
recorded over 550 bicyclists visiting the Energizer Stations while commuting to work. This

includes a record 95 bicyclists at the West Dublin /Pleasanton BART station. The bicyclists
received free refreshments, T- shirts, entry in the Bike Month drawing, and tote bags containing
giveaways from regional and local contributing sponsors.
As part of "Bike Month ", the City also hosted several bike - related events in late April and
throughout May. These events promoted the use of bicycling as an alternative form of
transportation and included:
1. Adult Bike Safety Education Class Day 1(April 26)
2. Bikeways and Pedestrian Projects Workshop (April 29)
3. Adult Bike Safety Education Class Day 2 (May 3)
4. Bike to Work Day (May 8)
5. Bike to the Market (May 15)
6. Flat Tire Repair Clinic (May 17)
7. Family Bike Safety Workshop (May 31)
Participants in all of the above events were eligible to participate in a drawing co- hosted by the
cities of Dublin and Pleasanton. Prizes for the drawing included gift cards and vouchers donated
by Tri- Valley businesses.
A total of 20 Tri - Valley businesses contributed to the Bike Month events, 15 of which are located
in Dublin. Sixty -six prizes were donated to the Bike Month Drawing. Dublin businesses
