DESCRIPTION:
The City held its second annual "Dublin Idol" competition during "Community Night" at the Dublin
Farmers' Market in May. Hosted by KKIQ Radio's Faith Alpher, the program began with a
Preliminary Round, involving 33 singers, on May 15. The competition was broken down into two
age group categories — 5th to 8th graders, and 9th to 12th graders. During the Preliminary Round,
the contestants were asked to sing a song of their choice for one minute, a cappella. Judges
Vice Mayor Biddle, Councilmember Haubert, and KKIQ representative Lizzie Hampton, rated
their performances on voice quality, voice control, and stage presence. Ten singers from each
age group advanced to the final round.
In the final round of competition, held on May 29, the singers sang a complete version of their
chosen song, with musical accompaniment. At the end of the event, judges Councilmember
Hart, Councilmember Haubert, Youth Advisory Committee member Angie Wang, and KKIQ
representative Ashley LaBarbera named 8th grader Ashley Rose and 10th grader Gwynn
Cristobal our "Dublin Idols." Ashley Rose, a student at Wells Middle School, sang "There are

Worse Things I Could Do," from the musical, Grease, and Cristobal, a student at Dublin High,
sang "Ordinary People," by John Legend. The winners each received a trophy and a $300
check from KKIQ Radio.
In the younger age group category, runners -up were Hannah Bumanlag, a 7t" grader at Fallon
Middle School, who was awarded second place and $200, and Kaitlynn Miguel, a 6t" grader at
Fallon Middle School, who was awarded a $100 check for third place. For the older students,
Kendra Clingerman, a recent graduate of Dublin High School, took home second place and the
$200 check, while third place and $100 went to Brooke Brunckhorst, also a recent Dublin High
graduate.
