The competition was broken down into two age group categories — 5th to 8th graders, and 9th to 12th graders. During the Preliminary Round, the contestants were asked to sing a song of their choice for one minute, a cappella. Judges Vice Mayor Biddle, Councilmember Haubert, and KKIQ representative Lizzie Hampton, rated their performances on voice quality, voice control, and stage presence. Ten singers from each age group advanced to the final round. In the final round of competition, held on May 29, the singers sang a complete version of their chosen song, with musical accompaniment. At the end of the event, judges Councilmember Hart, Councilmember Haubert, Youth Advisory Committee member Angie Wang, and KKIQ representative Ashley LaBarbera named 8th grader Ashley Rose and 10th grader Gwynn Cristobal our "Dublin Idols."
