DESCRIPTION:
As part of its 10-year Strategic Plan, the City Council has indicated that environmental issues
are of significant importance to the City of Dublin. Specifically, the City Council has placed great
emphasis on finding ways to protect the quality of life of residents within Dublin and to ensure
vital resources are available for current and future generations. This calls for the community to
come up with ways to reduce excess consumption and avoid waste. One particular area of
focus is reducing the amount of energy consumed within the community from the burning of
fossil fuels by pursing alternative clean-energy sources, such as solar power.
One of the largest sources of greenhouse gasses produced within the community, as found in
the Greenhouse Gas Inventory from 2010, is from energy consumption by buildings and homes.
Greenhouse gases are a byproduct of the energy produced from the burning of fossil fuels.
Currently, eighty percent (80%) or more of PG&E's energy production comes from the burning
of fossil fuels. Solar power, on the other hand, is a clean source of energy that reduces our

reliance on fossil fuels for energy production and the greenhouse gasses emitted within the
community. Solar power production also provides a mechanism for the user to reduce and
stabilize the cost of energy over time.
Because of solar power's positive benefits to the local environment, the City is excited for and
proud of its residents and businesses when they make the decision to install solar power
systems at their home or business. Once such business, All American Label, has lead out in this
effort by installing a solar power system at its facility at 6958 Sierra Court. It is expected that the
189 kilowatt system will provide a significant proportion of the facility's electrical needs for years
to come. All American Label is setting a great example for others in the community by showing
that solar is a viable alternative.
Staff recommends that the City Council recognize All American Label for its significant
environmental contribution to the City of Dublin.
