The market ran from April 17 through September 25. As soon as the season began, PCFMA staff noticed increased foot traffic and sales from previous years, even in the early hours of the Market. There was an even greater consistency this season in producers and vendors, which kept attendance strong throughout the year. On any given Thursday night, there was a tremendous sense of"community" at Emerald Glen Park, with kids and families spilling over from the playground into the Market. One feature that has always set the Dublin Farmers' Market apart from other Markets in the area has been the regular theme nights. "First Thursday" events were, once again, the most popular nights of the month. A crowd could always be found in the area near the McCormick Family Rose Garden, as this was the location of the monthly wine and beer Castings. The Castings featured over 20 different wineries and breweries this season. Local musicians were also on hand to accompany the Castings. For the season's "First Thursday" finale, Staff hired "Foreverland," a 14-piece Michael Jackson tribute band to perform, which brought a bigger-than-usual crowd to the Market that evening. With additional programming, the Market's other theme nights also showed growth this season. On the two "Community Nights" in May, the Farmers' Market hosted the City's second annual "Dublin Idol" competition, which brought out many fans of the local contestants. Once again, KKIQ Radio's Faith Alpher was the emcee for the event, and the City received great publicity from KKIQ for the contest. Other "Community Nights" featured "Coffee with the Chief' (Police Chief McCarthy), jazz bands from both Fallon Middle School and Quarry Lane School, local performer Ramon Ponce, the "Melody Minstrels" (a local ukulele group), and the McGrath Irish Dancers. Page 2 of 3 On "Dublin Cooks" nights, PCFMA's "Cookin' the Market" team came to Dublin to show residents how to use ingredients found at the Market to create some healthy family meals. Staff also coordinated popular chili and ribs cook-offs, featuring local, home-grown chefs. The winners of those events won gift certificates to their favorite Dublin restaurants. The final theme night of the month was "Family Night," which continued to generate large attendance numbers. With added programming such as a bounce house, face painting, balloon twisting, and featured guests Python Ron and magician Phil Ackerly, families with young children consistently frequented these events. City Staff also reached out to local businesses and non-profit organizations this season by hosting a "Volunteer Fair" in May and "Health and Fitness Fair" in September. Both of these events encouraged visitors to the Market to reach out and learn more about all of those organizations serving the City of Dublin. In 2015, with the construction of the Emerald Glen Recreation and Aquatic Complex, the Market will move temporarily back to its original location at Emerald Glen Park, and City Staff and the PCFMA will work diligently to make Dublin residents aware of the move through increased publicity efforts.
