UBLIN MEETING DATE: November 13, 2014
SUBJECT: Summer Quarterly Report
Prepared by Ann Mottola, Heritage and Cultural Arts Manager
ATTACHMENTS: 1. Cultural Arts Classes Registration Report—Summer 2014
RECOMMENDATION: Receive Report
FINANCIAL STATEMENT: None
DESCRIPTION: The Heritage and Cultural Arts Division develops quality programs
that strengthen community image, preserve the City's heritage, provide cultural experiences and
encourage appreciation of the arts. This is accomplished by providing diverse offerings for youth and
adults in the disciplines of music; dance; fine arts; and visual and performing arts. The Division also
provides programs at the Heritage Park and Museums to support education and stewardship of the
City's historic collections. This report is a summary of programs conducted during summer 2014.
CULTURAL ARTS CLASSES
Cultural Arts Classes and Camps provide opportunities for customers of all ages to attempt new
experiences or refine current artistic and performance skills. Classes are taught by contracted specialty
instructors and are typically offered from four to eight weeks in duration.
A total of 462 participants registered for Cultural Classes during summer 2014, a small increase from last
summer. The cultural art Camp programs were very popular this summer, particularly the Art Explosion
Camps offered by Dublin business, Ever-Pro. New to this summer camp lineup, Ever-Pro Camps held
three sessions with enrollments ranging from 12 to 18 students. Also quite popular were new video-
based camps: "Let's Make Movies!" and Television News Production.
There was an 11% reduction in the class cancellation rate this summer as compared to last summer.
Staff has been working with instructors to offer fewer session options. This has also had a positive
impact on the average registration per class.

VISITORS
The "Visitors Comparison" records the number of people who visit the Heritage Park and Museums as
part of a formal tour or as a walk-in guest. This measurement also includes those who experience the
Heritage Park and Museums as a participant in one of the many community events or programs hosted
at the site by the City. Tours are also tracked to differentiate between those tours that are a school
group or those that are for some other formal or informal community group.
There were no special events during the summer quarter; however, the Parks and Community Services
Department located "Camp Dublin" at the Dublin Heritage Park and Museums for the second year. This
full day program offered a classic camp experience. There were different Camp Dublin sessions; one for
pre-school age and the other for elementary school age children. Both groups participated in daily
history enrichment activities including making butter, ice cream and panning for gold. Both groups of
campers participated in an activity with the Garden Volunteers in which they planted bean seeds to take
home and grow and then they toured the new "kitchen garden" and tasted tomatoes right off the vine.
The groups also toured the museums. A total of 53 children attended the camps. Enrichment activities
included eight tours. The 53 campers are reflected in the Tour data below.

FACILITY RENTALS
St. Raymond Church has been available to the public for private rental since prior to the expansion of
the Heritage Park and Museums in 2011. The Sunday School Barn became available for private rentals on
May 1, 2012.
During the summer quarter, there were four rentals at the Sunday School Barn and five rentals at St.
Raymond Church. Rentals included four memorials/funerals, two weddings and one meeting. There is no
longer an ongoing church rental at St. Raymond Church, resulting in the reduction from last year's
rentals.
