Written Communication—None Unfinished Business-None New Business 7.1 Senior Center Advisory Committee Annual Report Update ; Staff shared the presentation shown at the Parks and Community Services Commission presented by CM Krausnick and CM Guarienti on October 20, 2014. The Advisory Committee Members were asked to give their feedback on the content of the presentation.The following input was made: • Introduce CM Guarienti and CM Krausnick as Chairperson and Vice Chairperson respectively COPIES TO: G:\COMMISSIONS&COMMITTEES\SRADVCMTEU�Iinutes\2014\SCAC Minutes 11062014.doc CITY OF DUBLIN SENIOR CENTER ADVISORY COMMITTEE 1VIINUTES OF NOVEMBER 6,2014 Page 2 of 3 • Remove script on slides • Expand topics • Add a new picture of the Everyday Life Skills in Engiish class Staff was asked to incorporate changes and set up a time to do a practice presentation in the Council Chambers with CM Guarienti and CM Krausnick. Staff will set up a time for the practice presentation. The second presentation is scheduled to be presented to City Council on December 2. 7.2 Senior Center Special Luncheons Staff gave a brief report on the special luncheons offered at the Senior Center over the last two years. The Senior Center Advisory Committee Members were provided with a list of themes, entertainment and attendance of the luncheons offered in 2013 and 2014. Staff asked the Senior Center Advisory Committee Members to offer suggestions of new ideas and activities to be incorporated in upcoming specials luncheons and events in 2015. Ms. Mack suggested seeking and utilizing the talent of seniors who frequent the Senior Center. CM Ito suggested asking the ukulele group to play and sing a variety of music. CM Guarienti and Ms. Mack asked Staff to consider using senior talent to attract new participants at the luncheon. She used the example of one of the students who performs stand-up comedy at Tommy T's Comedy Club in Pleasanton. Staff informed the Senior Advisory Committee Members that the Annual Car Show will not be offered in 2015. A partnership with the Youth Advisory Committee was suggested to offer an Intergenerational Benefits Concert in spring 2015. This concert would showcase the talents of both seniors and youth in the community. All proceeds would benefit the Youth Fee Assistance Program. Staff will return to the Senior Center Advisory Committee with a formal presentation about partnering with the Youth Advisory Committee for this event. CM Guarienti suggested not offering a luncheon in September. She suggested passibly doing poetry readings. Staff asked for additional ideas on how to draw in new senior participants. CM Krausnick suggested advertising in other places, and placing posters around town. CM Guarienti thought that offering a vegetarian meal option may attract participants who do not each meat. It was suggested that the theme of the luncheon be the focus and not the Senior Center. Also CM Ito and CM Guarienti suggested focusing on the fact that adult of all ages can participate in Senior Center activities. CM Krausnick suggested using the City website to advertise there are no adult age restrictions. CITY OF DUBLIN SENIOR CENTER ADVISORY COMMITTEE MINUTES OF NOVEMBER C,2014 Page 3 of 3 CM Ito asked about cost recovery on the luncheons. Staff responded cost recovery is not the focus and the luncheons are subsidized. The luncheons are intended to offer an affordable lunch meal alternative and be welcoming. Other eusiness CM Bonetti provided the Senior Center Foundation report. The Craft Boutique has 79 vendors of which 17 are new vendors. There are 32 vendors already on the waitlist for 2015. Crafters were vetted to help reduce duplication. The Foundation casino trips have been cancelled due to competition from other companies who offer very low cost bus trips. Ms. Macl<, Parlcs and Community Services Commission Liaison, reported the Commission received the Senior Center Annual Report. She stated applications are available now for the Commission and Advisory Committee vacancies. CM Guarienti reported the Fallon Sports Park Public Art Selection Committee viewed the presentations made by five artists, and made the final recommendation on which artist should be selected. Staff reported the Emerald Glen Aquatics project is moving forward. Since the existing portable buildings which housed some pre-school programs have been displaced, some of the pre-school activities will be rescheduled to be held at the Senior Center in early 2015. Staff gave an overview of the Hometown Heroes program to be held on November 8, 2014. Donation items to Operation SAM will continue throughout the month of November. Garrison Commander LTC Gerdes from Camp Parks is scheduled to speak at the event. CM Ito asked if the Senior Center Advisory Committee will meet in December. Staff indicated they will meet. The Senior Center Advisory Committee Members will decide at the December meeting if there will be a meeting in January. Adiournment—10:50 AM.
