SUBJECT: City Council Participation in Youth in Government Program

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
The City Council will consider participation in the first annual Youth in Government Program
(Program), which will take place during varying hours on Monday, March 2; Tuesday, March 3;
and Monday, March 9, 2015. This year's Program will consist of senior students from Valley
High School taking a tour of the City, job shadowing participating City Staff and Council
Members, observing a regular City Council meeting, and participating in their own Mock City
Council Meeting.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
None.
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends the City Council participate in the first annual Youth in Government Program,
which will take place during varying hours on Monday, March 2; Tuesday, March 3; and
Monday, March 9, 2015.

DESCRIPTION:
In October 2014, the City Council approved the creation of the City's Youth in Government
Program. The City of Dublin Youth in Government Program (Program) is designed to provide
an opportunity for Dublin youth to get involved with City Government through tours, job
shadowing, and City Council meeting experience. This year, City Staff has worked with staff at
Valley High School to offer the Program's first-year participation to the senior students. The
Program requires the participation of the students, executive/management staff and at least one
member of the Dublin City Council. The three-day Program schedule is as follows:

Staff is seeking one or more City Councilmembers to volunteer and participate in the activities
noted above.
