award.
Sufficient funds. are available in .the FY 2000-01 Budget
DESCRIPTION: The' California Park and Recreation Society annually recognizes
outstanding programs, parks and facilities. The process involves statewide competition in the various
award areas. Staff submitted the Art in the Parks program in the Neighborhood/Community Life in the
population category of up to 50,000. The program has been selected as a 2000 California Park and
Recreation Society Award of Excellence winner - first place - in the Neighborhood category.
Awards will be presented at the CPRS Awards and Installation Banquet during. the 51st Annual
Conference in Sacramento. The Banquet will be held on Saturday, March 17, 2000. The fee for attending
the reception and banquet is $65 per person. Traditionally a City Council or Board member attends the
banquet and accepts the award.
It is the recommendation of Staff that the City Council appoint a representative to attend the banquet and
accept the award.

Congratulations! The City of Dublin Parks .and Community Service has been selected as a
2000 California Parks and Recreation Society Award of Excellence winner, first place, in
the category of Neighbor.hood/Community Life for Art in the Parks in the population
category of up to 50,000. YourI agency's award will be presented. with the other agency

at 'the Hyatt Hotel. The fee for attending the:reCeption and the banquet is '$55 per 'person
($65, if purchased after January 31, 2000). This is a very exciting evening where all the
award winners are honored.
All award 'winners are automatically eligible for the 'Creating Community Award of
Distinction. This prestigious Award will be announced and presented at the end of the
Awards and Installation Banquet at the conference. Be sure you invite your City Council
and Board of Directors to attend the Banquet with you. This is'an excellent opporttmity to
demonstrate to your policy makers how your agency Creates Community .by .embracing the
core values of the profession. Enclosed with ~his letter is a.banquet registration form.
At the reception before the banquet, all award winners will have the opportunity to have
their photo taken. This photo may be used for publicity in your local community. You will
be contacted at a later date to set up your photo time during the reception on March 17. It is
important to note the reception is for one hour only. Please arrive in time for your photos to
be taken.

· implementation aspects of your agency's award winning program. Two representatives
from your agency are asked to attend to set up your agency's display and discuss and answer
any questions for delegates attending this session. This is a very popular session and is well
attended. The session is scheduled for Friday, 'March 16, 2000, from 2:00 p.m. to 3:30
p.m.
A brochure with a brief description of each award winner is distributed at the Best of the
Best session. Please submit a one paragraph description of your program to Jeff Retzlaffby
