The following is a summary of the 2014 fall quarter. A detailed attendance report can be found in Attachment 1. Daily Attendance 254 227 213 214 216 (60 daysJ (61 days) (62 days) (61 days) (60 days) Total Volunteer Hours 3,675 4,250 4,304 4,146 3,419 The Senior Center experienced a 9% increase in Programs and Activities attendance and 10% increase in total Senior Center attendance. The total volunteer hours decreased 14%. The decrease is attributed to several key volunteers no longer working longer hours and also that many of the Open Heart Kitchen volunteers who work as a lunch program assistant no longer are documenting hours with the Senior Center. New classes and activities were offered this quarter including Healing Yoga plus a Yoga workshop, Hawaiian music, hula dancing, Draw Now Paint Later and an additional Ballroom dance class. COPIES TO: ITEM N0.:7.2 G:\COMMISSIONS&COMMITTEES\SRADVCMTE\Statements\2015\2-5-15 SCAC Statement 7.2 Fall Quarterly Report.doc September • A new Wednesday afternoon Draw Now...Paint Later class began. • AZumba Gold class began with a free demo which drew 13 students. • A van trip to Columbia State Park had ten participants who enjoyed the Fall Fest event. October • The Annual Senior Information & Resource Fair was held on October 4. Forty-seven vendors and 300 patrons attended the event. The Senior Center received one $500 sponsor from the Palo Alto Medical Foundation, and the lunch sponsor was BJ's Restaurant. • Thirty-four seniors enjoyed the Halloween special luncheon with food by Miraglia Catering. • A dementia care workshop offered by Comfort Keepers was attended by 20 participants. • A two-day Yoga of Breath & Meditation workshop was attended by eight participants. • A van trip to Golden Gate Fields had nine participants who enjoyed a day at the races. November • Hometown Heroes, an annual Veterans Day event, honored veterans of today and past. The event included a welcome by Vice Mayor Biddle, recognition of veterans by branch of service by Garrison Commander Gerdes of Camp Parks, and a concert by the Wells Middle School Jazz Band. In addition, 80 photos of veterans were displayed. BJ's Restaurant, Holiday Inn and Parkview Assisted Living and Memory Care donated refreshments for the reception held after the concert. Over 300 items were donated to Operation SAM (serving all military). The attendance was approximately 150 for this event. • Fifty seniors enjoyed the Veterans Appreciation special luncheon with food by Checkers Catering and entertainment by the Wells Middle School Jazz Band. • Twenty eight students from Tai Chi classes gathered in uniform to practice moves learned over the year. • The daily lunch program served turkey meals to 41 patrons in celebration of Thanksgiving on November 26. • The Senior Center Foundation held an annual Holiday Craft Boutique featuring the crafts of 81 vendors and attracted approximately 650 attendees. Ramona, our teacher, teach us "Everyday life skills in English." This is a wonderful class that helps us acclimatize to life in America better. When we moved to senior housing, our life became independent. Everything in life we need to face, we have learned how to do and feel it(is becomingJ easier to do than before." Ruidi and Darong, Dublin October Patron from the Senior Info Fair: Thank you for having this event on Saturday and for the diversity of vendors. 1 gained a lot of information and health checks. Becky F., Dublin Patron from the Senior Info Fair: It was helpful to have vendors that provided senior services, such as Assisted Living and Visiting Angels. It was a great event for seniors and their caregivers. Christine M., Dublin November Lunch Program Evaluation: "l like the good food and great people to eat lunch with. (Volunteers) Eddie Jo and Carol are good checking us in. Best place to eat at! "Fred M. Ping Pong Program Evaluation: "1 like playing ping pong at the Dublin Senior Center because the facility is good, the staff is courteous and provides me with a chance to spend some healthful time with friends." Timothy Y., Danville Senior Center Evaluation: "1 came to an AARP Mature Driving class and found this Center to be a wonderful place. Everyone who works here is wonderful. Everyone who comes here is wonderful. 1 really love coming here." Carol C., Castro Valley RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends that the Senior Center Advisory Committee receive the report.
